"Never done one. I've only just started jogging due to the weather being nice."
Don’t let your imagination put you off. There will be loads there that just walk. It’s a great way to start. Run, jog or walk as much as you like. There’s no competition except for yourself and maybe the first 2 or 3 to finish, but I’ve never seen them. |

Cheers for the advice 👍🏾☺️ |

"I’m doing Penrith Parkrun, and today will be my 100th! Really pleased to hit this milestone! 😎
At another parkrun we met one of the regular volunteers from the Penrith parkrun, small world! "
It is indeed a small world!
There was a party over from the North East a while back, and one of the ladies had a t-shirt on, with “Looking for a man at Penrith Parkrun” and a phone number on the back of it……🤭 |

"One running, one volunteering.
No volunteers = no parkrun "
Can I ask, what do you think is a good volunteer ratio? When I first started, I recall being asked to volunteer at least once a year, and so I generally wait until I have a niggle or injury and then volunteer. This has me above 1 in 50, but it feels low and I’m thinking maybe I should just volunteer more. |

"If Sharon Davies has anything to do with it, (due to legal action), then trans people won't be allowed to do parkrun at all."
Kinda ruins the logo of for everyone, forever, for free ……
I know that there are always some competitive people who go, but for me, it’s a wonderful gathering of everyone, regardless of age, ability or any social or political views. We just gather together, chat briefly to anyone we find ourselves next to, because the event has brought us together, and then disperse like a morning mist, all gone by 10.00am.

Parkruns are great. Everyone should try one at least once. Totally free. All over the world.
Run, walk, jog, take your dog. Doesn’t matter.
I’ve heard doctors have been prescribing parkruns for people.
We need more things like this. |

I agree with this, and will add; Parkrun is also a good place to meet ladies…..😉 |

"I always think about it, but I'm not built to run so I stay in bed."
You absolutely don’t need to run. Many people will walk all of it, every week. There’s a tail Walker, so you never get lost or left. It really is a feel good experience. |

Hopefully you will go along and enjoy one. For me, it has very little to do with the actual running, it’s a real positive weekend boost. I live alone and work from home and so it’s great to be part of something busy and positive, without the pressure to engage with everyone or pressure to be “great” like so many other things seem to require. I can bimble around, have brief conversations with anyone, say hello to marshals and dogs and other participants, even go for a coffee afterwards if I want. I think it’s mentally and physically healthy. |

Any volunteering is good, some are there every week and never volunteer. 1 in 10 would be very good. It's actually very enjoyable |

"Used to do park runs until my knees went
Now I do the pub run eases the pain
Just taken up bowling too"
Squats and lunges are a must. Supports the knees and keeps the pain away. Build up to about 30 of each every day and you’ll be shocked how much better your knees will feel. |

My park run story
Started to loose weight in around sep 2019. Done my first park run in 2019 done a few before covid hit then done a few 5km and even done 2 10km was running around the 30 min make for a 5km
Got injured in mid 2022 to back and done the same injury 9 months or so later so hardly any park runs for best part of 18 months
Done about 3 monnths worth of park runs in 2024 then rolled ankle which took ages to heal. Restarted this year - down 5 this year with 4 being in last month
Improved time by a couple of mins from the start of May which is good. I am aiming to get to sub 40 for my local park run which is not a flat park run by any stretch
I am sitting here with my back and legs in bits from yesterday lol but I know my heart rate and blood pressure is improving |

Absolutely brilliant. This is why I love parkrun. I do a few squats and lunges in the week, when I remember, and touch wood, it has really helped with avoiding injury. My times aren’t brilliant, but I’m never last and never feel intimidated, and I usually have a few great chats with people before the start and throughout the run. I just feel like I’m doing myself a lot of good both physically and mentally. |

"I am 3 parkruns short of the big 500. It's taken a while but not long now.
Excellent mate! That’s some achievement! I’ve done 107, and was over the moon when I scored No.100 a few weeks ago 😎👍"
Thanks mate! And well done you on your 107.
I felt a great sense of achievement too when I reached the 50, 100, and 250 milestones. I'm much slower now, but still going. |

500 would be an absolute minimum of 10 years, and so slowing down is unavoidable. A mate of mine got so focused on his times and so fed up that he was getting slower, that he quit running altogether, not admitting that he was now in his 60’s and so not adjusting his expectations of himself. I’m rubbish compared to many, but it’s the buzz and the social and getting to new locations and just a sense of being part of something, without having to feel pressured or restricted. I just love it, and when I’m injured or just feeling out of sorts, I volunteer, which is great too. |

I’ve said this a few times in the forum, because it’s true lol! You’ll meet more ladies at your local Parkrun, than you will in Fab, or a swinger club 😉 |

Well, it's taken me 12 years, but in my defense there was an 18 months gap when there was no parkrun because of covid.
I used to always be chasing PBs but I've now learnt to live with being about 4-5 minutes shower then pre pandemic. I'm both older and heavier now, and I don't take it as seriously.
But I love the social catch up with friends that you only see once a week on a Saturday morning, the buzz as you say, the relaxed chat in the cafe afterwards. It's just part of the routine!
Parkrun tourism is always exciting (doing one tomorrow as my local is cancelled) and it's lovely to see things from the other side when volunteering.
Overall, great for fitness AND mental health! |

Come on fellow excuse finders. It’s raining here, I think my knee is a bit sore ………. I could just stay in bed scrolling, but I know I’ll feel great later if I do get my arse and head into gear and get out there, and feel a bit flat and disappointed in myself if I don’t.
Shall we?? |

I’m close to 500 runs and 100 volunteers
Have been to 96 different locations
And it’s great
Normally meet up with a couple of friends for coffee afterwards
But have met so many nice people.
Just parked up at my local run, about to get out of the car, into the rain 🌧️

That's excellent volunteering 👏. No volunteers = no parkrun 🏃♀️🏃 |

Completed my local at Penrith this morning, way too hot for me, and low on energy as I stayed up to watch the Scotland game last night. It’s all about going the distance though, and well done to everyone else who got their arses out of bed to go and get sweaty 🥵 |

That was horrible this morning. So humid!
One of those morning where things just didn’t go right. Shorts chaffed, felt sick, prick ahead of me stopped dead on the the finish line so I ran in front of him then another prick overtook me in the finish funnel And wouldn’t go back into line.
Onwards to next week! |

"Definitely going, but I’m not sure if I’ll be giving it my all. I will see how it goes. Sometimes it’s just great to be in the middle and not worrying about times or position. "
Definitely a day for an easy one to acclimatise to the heat.
I’ve got a 10k race a week on Friday so good prep for that |

"Defo running tomorrow. I have a new 500 t-shirt to show off. lol"
Congratulations, that's an impressive achievement.
I'll be attending today, but will be carrying a water bottle, which I don't normally do. |
