I been thinking (I know dangerous) After a conversation with someones who daughter joined a successful band and lives most of the time in LA, finding someone (today) I used to know with a million subscribers on YT and someone from my school (also today) after their wedding photos of her getting married to a comedian were uploaded to her FB (She originally was a model).
It got me thinking what Constitutes as success and why some suceed yet many fail or may struggle at something seemingly less grand. Like buying a house and having children (sorry I hope that does not sound arrogant).
Is it luck, skill and early adoption & timming one of them or a mixture of all of them? |

I think it depends what you place value in. If you want fame you'll never be happy untill you have it. Same with money and all that jazz. For me it would be time. I'd love to have all the time in the world to read books, play my guitar, play my games, watch movies, and generally do what I enjoy. Unfortunately I work full time and have 0 money and 0 time so I guess failing all round haha |

Success is what you define it to be. One person's definition of success is getting out of bed every day. Another person's could be saving enough money for a deposit on a house. Another person's could be financial freedom. We're all different and have different goals in life. |

Arguably my brother is exceptionally successful. High powered city job, glamorous wife with equally high powered job, gorgeous house in the 'burbs, good friendship group, solvent etc etc. But beyond that he's genuinely a really decent person (as is his Mrs). But honestly, they set the bar pretty high!
For me, some days success is getting dressed and my t-shirt not being on inside out it's all relative I think it's being happy with your lot, whatever that is for you. |

Success is being happy and content with your life and what the futures feels it will be. It's an easy way of life and feeling your are not constrained completely by money and work. And lots of sex of course. |

"Being content with my lot and having children and grandchildren that love me as much as I love them.
Money has nothing to do with it."
This⬆️. I couldn't have put it better myself. I am truly blessed. |

To me it's a mix traditionally it starts with personal - educational, professional, financial but then interpersonal and having an impact / contribution, not always in the order. As you get older you realise your relationships, the length and depth of the real measure if you can achieve all the earlier stuff without compromising them you're doing okay. |

Focus, tenacity, probably self belief is the biggest, without that you will give up or have small or no goals. |

Success for me, generally speaking, is happiness. I know a guy who is a millionaire. He’s not happy. As Mr McCawber says:
Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen and six, result happiness.
Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.”

Owning a plane and a PhD? ❤️
No, being serious, I think there's more than one definition of success. There are so many different benchmarks, measures.
But, for me, personally? Real success is happiness. It's clichéd for a good reason. |

I have never been promoted, in a 23 year career. I am a failure.
I am loved and adored by people I cherish and adore in return. I am immortally successful.
Pick a lane - both are true - but make sure you define your own success. |

I think that this captures it for me.
Happiness. How many “successful” people do we all know, who are caught on the hamster wheel, chasing the next thing that they need, just to prove to everyone, including themselves, how successful they are?
If you are comfortable and happy and enjoying life without anxieties or frustration, you truly are winning and successful. |

It looks different for different people and what their priorities in life are.
Some want a corporate job paying top dollar so they can retire early and live the dream, others want a job that pays barely enough to live on but they live a bohemian, stress free life with no responsibility.
Others want to get married and have kids, others are happy to be single and childless and do their own thing.
They all probably think they are successful in life.

Success means so many different things to different people.
The thought of being in a band is my idea of hell. Touring and being away from my family, missing out on kids growing up. Not for me but appreciate it is for others.
To me it's genuinely feeling happy when you get back home from work, having enough money so you don't worry if the car packs in, having a good support network around you and finally having happy kids. |

For me success & happiness are two separate entities. You can be happy without success & you can be successful and still not achieve happiness, but if you can surpass your expectations and be happy with your efforts then win or loose you've reached contentment...

I have a few houses, all unencumbered, a hot gf and have travelled to some very cool places. Sounds like success....but I have a multitude of health issues, various financial stresses and feel generally aimless.
The chap above who mentioned happiness and success being two distinct things is bang on the money. To me, a happy life with no stress would be success, regardless of material possessions and personal achievements. Ie, being a dog in a good home 🤣 |

I've never been ambitious or had a bucket list.
My only goal was to be able to provide for my family.
In more recent years I've travelled more but that requires planning and lots of saving because I don't have very much disposable income despite having paid off a mortgage and no loans or huge bills.
I've succeeded at doing anything I have attempted and raised 3 amazing kids.
I could easily go back to a previous job and earn twice what I'm on now but that would require having to deal with twice as much stress and hassle so it's not worth it.
In my opinion I'm successful but not financially successful or even comfortable so thankfully I don't see money as the answer to everything.

To be piss takingly pedanticly pedantic ...... the words ARE the parenthesis and the parenthesis can be flagged with () and also
- - and , ,
Dashes , brackets or commas indicate the start and end of the parenthesis. |

Kind of explains why happiness is a bit of a silly measure of success of a person or a nation or race if you can be living in poverty with no healthcare and education and class that as a success just because they are smiling? |
