What advice would you give those newbies?
Join the forum and read lots prior to sending DMs for hook-ups in the local area.

And..If you're monotropic, study polytropism
Adjust your expectations and once you've done that adjust them again.
This stuff isn't important it's a fun hobby if it starts causing any sort of stress it's best to step back
