Imagine running under 2hr … and no one will ever remember who you are!
Welcome… the runner up in this year’s London Marathon! This one is going to sting!
Anyway… have you ever run a marathon or half marathon? What time did you do?
Many moons ago when I was not as big and had better knees I did the great north run…
1hr 57!!!! Yeah!!! Not bad for old lardy!!!!

I did a Marathon when I was 20. A friend twisted his ankle and on Thursday evening, my roommate talked me into taking his place - the marathon was on Saturday!
On Friday morning I asked another of the marathon runners (there were quite a few on camp) how I should prepare - his answer was to eat as much as I can 🫣
On Saturday morning I went to the NAAFI and bought a pair of sports socks. I ran it in an Iron Maiden T shirt, some cotton sorts and a pair of denim trainers!
I completed it in 4hrs 22 minutes.
I always chuckle when I think that my only preparation for a marathon was eating as much as I could the day before
I was a lot fitter then! 🤭😂🤣 |

That's very impressive. Ive ran quite a few half marathons nothing impressive, pb was one hour 46 one hour age 47. I love this distance, without too much training. I can still run it in a couple of hours on a Sunday morning.
I only have a run a full marathon once I was physically and mentally exhausted for about eight weeks afterwards and decided it wasn't for me. |

"I'm not a runner, but love the idea.
Full of admiration for anyone finishing a marathon/half. Neither is for me, but thinking about the couch to 5k, which will do me!"
Furthest I've ran in the last few years is about 8k! I still have an urge to just sign up and do a marathon though. |

Suspect you'll find the first couple of weeks too easy. There are other shorter training plans (without the app though) aimed at people who are in good shape but not runners |

Ah, thanks, mate - that's helpful. I'm not unfit (play a bit of football etc), just not a runner. I'll take a look. |

I ran my first - and last - half marathon in 2022. I'd only started running in 2020 as a way to keep fit in lockdown, but had got myself up to a decent 10k time by the end of 2021 so decided I'd challenge myself with the half in 2022.
I set myself a target of 3 and half hours, and came home with a time of 3:27, and even had enough oomph to sprint the last 100m - motivated by being overtaken by one of the first marathon runners on the home straight!
I've never been the slightest bit motivated to run beyond 5km since then!!! |

I've done a 5k once in my life...a race you did with your dog with obstacles for you both along the way! My level. 🤣
You should do it! Know they're hard work to prepare for, but that motivation will keep you going. |

It's an absolutely unbelievable achievement sub 2hrs is a milestone i thought I'd never see in my lifetime these guys are absolutely amazing athletes.
Could go into the whole boring crap about being born at 3000m above sea level blah blah blah but honestly it's not worth shit if you don't put in the training.
Many years ago when I was fitting i used to do alot of my run training around Richmond park, coincidentally the Kenyan national squad used to train there also when in this country.
I was training for a race and doing some flat out 1k sprint set's, now I thought I was going fast until a group of about ten elite Kenyan runners blew past me like I was going backwards humbling but absolutely awesome.
So seeing this sub two hours under race conditions was just fucking brilliant.
My personal marathon pb.
2hrs 47.35 |

Did London in 4:12 - 10 years ago
Leeds half 1:32 - 10 years ago
5k 19:07 - 5 years ago
Used to enjoy running outside, now tend to do 5k on treadmill around 3/4 times a week followed by kettlebells.
Under 2 hours for a marathon is superhuman! |

Someone dropped their glasses the other day outside the arena. He was a jogger. I picked them up and ran after him. Immediately decked it cut hand and knees then tried to catch him. Was doing after like 20 feet lol. I couldn't do a marathon. Have glasses to a security guard |

Ive done around 20 marathons and probably double in half's.
Marathon PB is 3.48 and half was 1.37.
I dream of being within 30 mins of each now!
I cant even begin to comprehend how mentally demanding a sub 2 must be!! |

That's an incredible time. My first marathon was 4 hrs 22 in 1982 and my time improved to 3.35 by 1990. Best 1/2 marathon was 1.36. I just jog three times a week now and play walking football twice a week. I also do a weights session once a week. |

I've done lots of halfs and one full. I injured myself near the end of my training for London but decided to go for it anyway. The first half or so went OK but then my glute spasmed and I ended up hobbling over the line in just over six hours. It was still an amazing experience but I really want to do it again, injury free and a lot quicker. |
