We've exhausted all the what I should have done when I was younger suggestions, how about ideas for coping with aging?

Kicking off with 'Deal with, or jot down, an idea when you think of something'.

Which is why I am posting this right now!

Keep flexible, maintain balance, mix with people of all ages, keep current, don't be afraid of technology and stay interested.

Above all don't try and stay young but do try to stay youthful. There's a dufference

Is there even a definition for ‘old’ these days?

When I was twenty I thought forty was old. At forty I thought sixty is old. Nearly being there I’m still keeping up with thirty somethings and will review it at 80..

Chams or Socials

Make sure you have Power of Attorney (1. properly & finance 2. health & welfare) in place to save so much frustration & heartache for your family should you lose your mental capacity. It means they can access your finances to pay your bills etc… You don’t need a Solicitor, it can all be done online & costs @£90 each to register.

Also take out a common tenancy agreement , where by you sign half of your house over to your child or children , this stops the the government taking your house away , should you require to go in a care home

"Deal With"

Verbal Repetition - How to Respond:

Avoid arguing or pointing out the repetition: This can increase frustration.

Validate feelings: Address the emotion behind the question rather than just the words.

Use redirection: Gently shift their attention to a new activity or topic.

Provide reassurance: Answer the question calmly, even if it is the tenth time.

My dad doesn't have dementia but this made me laugh because each evening when I phone him I know I'm going to be answering the same questions that I answered last night and the night before and so in ad infinitum. If I say I don't know he says "why don't you know, you should?"

Big misunderstanding there.

I didn't offer those as either or answers.

They were merely initial suggestions to get the list started.

I went to a great deal of trouble with my comma placements back there!

I wondered why so many 'Deal with' posts were coming in.

I want all sorts of suggestions please...

Yes but it was fun OP. I could see where Granny was coming from and it just seemed appropriate to hit back with the dementia/alzheimer type retorts.

Personally, I try not to look in the mirror, surely if I do not see myself I can imagine that i am still 28 (ohh my knee!)

Eat well, really well, lots of avocados fish & olive oil, stay strong mentally and physically, study, keep fit & flexible , use the car less, whatever you do don't buy slip on shoes or start arranging things to avoid bending or reaching high and low, if you're thinking of getting a bungalow, you might as well get the slip on shoes as well and just plan to die soon

No problem, Granny (It feels odd calling someone much younger than me 'Granny'). Your simulated dementia has caused much mirth!

My original post was a good example of doing something while it was fresh in my mind, so I rattled it off before I forgot all about it.

An alternative would have been to jot it down on an old envelope. Not a brilliant idea. Far better to use a spiral reporter's pad and enter everything squentially, which makes it easier to locate and also give a clue as to when you wrote it down.

Now, there is a useful tip!

I've actually got two spiral pads.

One is for sequential jottings of general and administrative nature and the other is only for jokes, anagrams, spoonerisms, double entendres, obscenities and downright filth.

Best to keep one's split personalities separate!

This is really powerful. I think it applies to young people as well when you see yourself in a category that limits your choices in life. There are some real constraints of course but most are just assumed, I can't make C level in my 20s, I'm too old to retrain in my 50s, both of those are nonsense

The thing about being older is that mostly you just don't care if you do look ridiculous. I just can't bring myself to call people bro and being a woman makes it even dafter. 'Dude' is another one. I'd love to look at a guy who has done something stupid, raise an eyebrow and say "dude!" Lim that tone of voice
