Do you like tribute bands ? If so then who have you seen ?

I love tribute bands but they have to be really good and i tend to only see fairly well known ones in bigish venues. I have walked out on one dreadful one.

These are my favs ..

The Classic Rock Show

Rumours of Fleetwood

Illegal Eagles

Sky Full of Stars

There are others that i've seen but my mind has gone blank now i've tried to remember them all !!

Seen a few they often have them on smaller stages at festivals so if they have someone I don’t like, like Lewis Capaldi I’ll go to a smaller venue and watch a tribute band. Noasis seen a few times Total Stone Roses, Antarctic Monkeys, the Smyths, as you say they have to be good but copious amounts of alcohol may sway the sound lol

No. They are shite and are really just covers bands.

Basically wedding bands dressed up.

No talent and no originality.

Cant understand people paying more monet to see a covers band than they would to see a proper band.

Tonypandy.

I've seen loads: Dubs of Rock Festival is all Rock and metal tribute bands, many of whom were fantastic.

Some of my highlights have been:

Rammlied/ Ghosted/ Rob Zombied/ Disturbed UK / Shef leppard/ Motley Crude / Vacant pistols.

Other great ones included: Rumors (Fleetwood Mac), Manics and Phonics, Talon (eagles)

The Beatles are no more so seeing a tribute band is the next best thing however pale they may be in comparison.

"The Bootleg Beatles were excellent when I saw them a few years ago. "

They are great, so accurate.

The Counterfeit Stones were awful, it was like fancy dress karaoke.

A guy called Rob Lamberti is an amazing George Michael tribute act, he looks a little like him and has a wonderful voice; I’m a huge George fan so I wanted not to like him but he was brilliant.

Sometimes the original band don't tour very often/at all and people still want to experience their favourite music live? Just because you don't get it doesn't mean they're shit 😂

I saw The Clash back in the day & always swore I wouldn't see a tribute band, but my partner bought me a ticket to see London Calling in Brighton & I felt I had to go.

It was so good I've seen them 4 times since.

It's not the same but I'd rather hear their songs played well live than not hear them at all. It's always a good night out.

Dirty DC were good out of the many I have seen.

Sometimes it's next best thing. Usually don't have to spend or travel much for a good tribute band.

Well , lve seen a few of different music ,( Classic Rock is my Genre ) tribute bands & l found them to be absolutely brilliant at what they do , tribute bands that l have seen ..AC/DC..QUEEN ,GNR,THIN LIZZY , IRON MAIDEN , STATUS QUO , THE POLICE, FLEETWOOD MAC..while seeing all of them as the real thing too except QUO & FLEETWOOD MAC...& as such is life the day will come when all their is left is tribute bands, tribute bands keep the sound of that band alive.🎵🎼🎶

& plus I've NEVER paid more to see a tribute band than what l paid to see the real thing.

The only tribute band I've seen is the Bootleg Beatles back in the mid 80s. They were very good.

Apart from that I've seen lots of local cover bands, I've even played in some back in my late teens and early twenties.

It's a brilliant night out, l live on an Island & it's very expensive for most acts to play there with overheads.🎶🎼🎵

I'd much rather see a real band, but I did see the Brummie Beatles last year and they were fab.

Special mention for excellent tribute names though; Fred Zeppelin is a great pun and Arse is the all time best ever tribute band name (in case you can't guess, Elbow)

I’ve seen quite a few tribute bands over the years, often at motorbike rallies etc, some were better than others, but I do enjoy them.

Ones I’ve seen include

Thin Lizzy

AC/DC

Foo fighters

Aerosmith

Pink Floyd

Theyre still basically a covers band. They should be treated as such.

Would you pay to watch a wedding band?

We went to a tribute festival in Bristol last year. Was a mix of shite and great.

The Faux Fighters were excellent, as was the Elton John tribute.

Others were a bag of shite.

Best cover band we love are Punk Rock Factory. Who doesn't love a bit of metal Disney and moshing to the theme from Spongebob. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe you'd have more respect for fellow musicians if you did get the stick out of your arse, dress up and have some fun pretending to be someone that actually play live shows instead of grumping on the internet not selling CDs

Not really a tribute act but 'Tina' the Tina Turner musical was excellent.

A very powerful story of the 'Queen of Rock and Roll' and the girls who played here had brilliant voices.

Some might be crap but so far i've only seen one that was rubbish and i left after a couple of songs.

Most of the others i've seen are great and many of the band members are excellent musicians that write and perform their own music at their own shows aswell as being in a top tribute band.

I've not paid more to see a tribute band.

For lots of original music that i like i can't see them live anymore as they are either no longer touring or dead.

Well aren’t you a bundle of fun.

I went to a fake festival where the Jam, Oasis, and Stone roses among a couple of others were performing.

We all KNOW it’s not the real thing but we can have a beer and a sing song.

Maybe you don’t know (not sure if you’ve heard) but

The Jam, The Stibe roses and the Beatles all have original members that have died. That means it’s impossible to see them anymore.

Live / Wire - AC/DC tribute band are very good.

And recently Sanctum Sanctorium - an 80s goth covers band that do a 2-3 songs from The Cure, Bauhaus, Sisters Of Mercy, The Mission, Killing Joke, etc, and the singer takes on the outfit and stage mannerisms of each bands singers as he goes along, and they even bring out a female singer for a Siouxsie and the Banshees section.

I’m on the fence with tribute bands and only because I play in a couple of bands that do original material. We can travel 100’s of miles to play a 30 minute set and be lucky to break even with shared costs, where as a decent tribute band can command an UFP of £1k to perform a 2 hour set with a cut of the bar etc etc etc.

I’d love to do a Dio/Sabbath Era Dio tribute band as the music is already written it’s just a matter of learning already written parts, but can’t find other musicians that can commit to it.

To the OP…which tribute bands don’t exist that you’d go and see?

I’m sure if you tried looking on Facebook and the like you would find similarly inclined people. There is definitely a market out there.

We went to a fake 80s festival and the line up was Duran Duran, Erasure, Madonna and a couple of others. The whole evening was pleasurable despite it not being my kind of music.
