When I’m turning at a junction in 1st or second but going slow my car just switched off… it’s an old Clio 2004 petrol. Any idea? It just stalls. Fine otherwise

Not easy to tell but I would look at the wires to the ignition switch, could be broken or a loose connection but it could be many things.

So I was pulling out of a McDonald’s drive through through slow into the main road and it happened. The lights all stayed on but it sounded slow and I had to turn key off and on again

Paper Town Central, Essex.

Without experiencing it, it could be anything.

I have seen this though once before.

Are your car keys on with a lot of other keys? We're talking quite a weighty bunch of keys.

This can cause your ignition switch to become prematurely worn, when you go round a corner, they swing about and shut off the ignition. Always separate your car key(s) from the rest of your keys.

No there’s only a few keys on it. Car,door, family’s and Uni. It’s definitely not keys. I turned it off myself and on again because I couldn’t hear the engine anymore

Throttle position sensor

Could be a few things ranging from battery voltage dropping to throttle body sensors. Could be a crankshaft sensor or possible alternator issues. Any of the above could need replacing or even just cleaning.

Either way best let a trained mechanic have a look and get it sorted before it fails somewhere inconvenient.

Somewhere either Manchester or West London

Change your profile to Can accommodate, can not travel whilst having a proper trained mechanic look at it?

There are at least 10 different scenarios as to the problem from sensors to fuel pickup problems. Definitely a descent reliable garage is called for.

Just switched off or stopped?

Switched off indicates an electrical issue.

Stopping indicates a fuel issue.

Have you run the tank almost empty recently? The fuel pump may have sucked up some debris from the bottom of the tank and at low revs it’s blocking the inlet jet.

I had a Corolla do that back in the day. I put an inline fuel filter on and never had the issue again

I had a simular issue I think with a corsa, I poked around a few areas and found it was a spark plug issue. But yes hard to tell from a distance🤔

Sounds like either the flux capaciter or the left phalange

I'd check the alternator and battery.

If the battery isn't good, the electric power steering at low speeds could be affecting it.

If it’s a petrol the clios had a problem with the manifold pressure sensor which made them cut out

Which petrol engine is it?.I think it was the 1.2 had problems with vacuum pipes leaking that caused them to cut out at idle or low revs.

All over

Sorry OP, not trying to highjack thread but anyone with perhaps the knowhow could DM me about this. What would you think about buying a high end used car from the approved dealership of just under a year old that has been off road for few months but was previously registered as rental in its first 6 months or so since since original registration. Any thoughts appreciated. Not on thread though. Thanks.

Worthing

op ask around on social media for a good mobile mechanic with decent feedback. Keep away from dealer network.

Should be fine if it's approved used and should still have remainder of the warranty.

If you rev it higher, does it prevent it happening? Could be a blocked air filter you could take the air filter out altogether and drive around and see if it makes a difference.

To keep running the car needs air, spark, fuel injecting, one of them is not working when you are going slow, it's likely fuel or air

Take it to someone who knows what they are doing so it can be diagnosed properly. Otherwise it’s all people guessing what it could or couldn’t be.

Could be a faulty crankshaft position sensor (TDC sensor), dirty throttle sensor or issues within the wiring loom.

That's what I was thinking. Either that or a blocked Wankel injector.

the OP mentioned changing gears linkage issue maybe? I’m no mechanic but I can confirm an auto box does link onto a combustion system of sorts

You're right. I always get the warpcore and Wankel mixed up. Schoolboy error.
