Cost of living, general conversation and swinging
Jump to: Newest in thread
Random but wanted to open up a conversation to discuss whether you think the cost of living is impacting swinging or how it’s affecting your general life? I’m finding more and more men in their late 20’s - 40’s even can’t accommodate as they live with parents or siblings etc (I’m totally not judging just seems a lot more common these days than it used to be) and also people are quite stingy about the idea of booking or splitting hotel costs when it’s only about 40 each or something? I dunno it seems people are a bit more reluctant at the moment to meet for a few drinks even or host.
I’ll be honest the cost of living is impacting my life in the sense I’m working more hours and feel like I’m just getting by or dipping into my credit card most months x |

I seem to be working a decent amount of hours to have the same amount of disposable income. Wages definitely aren't matching the inflation or cost of living increases. I know a lot of people who are struggling. |

I'm not a swinger but I find there's an inordinate amount of outlay when it comes to meeting for socials and dalliances: hotels, food and rail costs (for both people when going halves).
Most, if not all, of the people I meet are hundreds of miles away up north, and so it can indeed be quite prohibitive. |

"Some of those men may actually live with a wife. Clubs are still busy, people still seem to have money in their pockets.
Nah, maybe a few but most are genuine "
I'm going to disagree and say the majority are married with just a handful of genuine
That's what I've experienced |

It's affecting me in that I don't go to anywhere near as many events the last two years as I did previously as it's just not affordable now with trains and hotels and outfits. My priorities have shifted. |

My priorities are elsewhere for now but the col and inflation has definitely eroded most people's disposable income to almost nothing.
More and more people I work with bring a packed lunch now and stopped their coffee purchases etc.
Many simple, small day-to-day purchases have become luxuries.
So drinks, dinner, coffee dates, hotels, travel, etc are way down the list and I think they'll stay that way for a good while yet. |

"I seem to be working a decent amount of hours to have the same amount of disposable income. Wages definitely aren't matching the inflation or cost of living increases. I know a lot of people who are struggling. " that's coz a inflation based pay increase on yr gross salary isn't inflationary on a net (eg in your bank) basis. The hidden joys of progressive tax bands... The (marginal) tax on your next £ is more than the average.
Swinging for most ppl comes from the fun bucket. Probably lower than going for drinks, meals out, etc. So it's the first go get cut back unless you have enough spare cash, or you really enjoy the social side of swinging.
