Hey all,

Done this before and got some great recommendations so thought I'd try again.... in my spare time I like making hip hop beats, looping and sampling music to make something new.

So the question is can I get any recommendations for things to sample, the more underground the better. Guitar licks, piano segments, decent basslines etc. Better if it's isolated sections with only 1-2 instruments playing so the sample isn't too messy. When digging in the crates (buying vinyl) i always get drawn to disco, jazz, soul, funk and blues but open to any genre.

If you're a hip hop head like me i would love to hear from you as well. Always great to get recommendations of new music. I'm primarily into boom bap underground stuff like people under the stairs, atmosphere, nujabes, tribe, pharcyde, binary star, ugly duckling, ours samplus, verb t, Kenji, mouse outfit, mac miller, the list goes on

Old school punk. Bass is cool but the drums would make it impossible to isolate. You like rancid? Got that sort of vibe but I think the rancid bass player is up there with the best

Know this song but the intro guitar is definitely something i'm gonna have a look at. A lot moodier than the rest of the tune

My favourite blues musician in Charles (or Charlie) Patton. His singing is weird but I think the music is amazing.

Try Michael Chapman, lots of intricate folk guitar, often it's the only instrument, that might work well mixed with some beats

West Midlands

Francois and the Atlas Mountains - 'la fille aux cheveux de soie'. Some of their other stuff would be worth exploring too.

Not so obscure but some of the Style Council jazz instrumentals from the 'Cafe Blue' and 'Our Favorite Shop' albums, few of their B sides from that era too.
