I know there are loads of body builders/athelics here. So which is the best exercise/work out to lose belly fat. Me and my friend are hitting the gym so we can both lose our belly. To be fair mine is probably more psychological, her's is physical as her's is getting so big that to the untrained eye one would think this is a lady in the later stages of pregnancy. My heart really goes out to her. Fortunately we know of a time to go where there WILL only be the two of us.
I have been on Youtube, but the amount of talking they do is crazy, and there's so much conflicting infomation. |

Without surgery/treatments, You cant target where to lose fat, the body decided. In time the fat will go, with clean eating and exercise, if you want a very low fat %.
However you can tone the muscles which will make you look slimmer.

This is the answer. Anyone telling you otherwise is grifting |

As above, there isn’t a way to shift belly fat specifically. The body will decide what to do etc, and I say that as a guy who’s been training for the last 18 months.
But there’s never a bad time to start going to the gym and working on it. |

For me planks (front and side) and stomach crunches work. Initially just see how many you can do and base your sets on that, gradually building. I do mine whilst waiting for food to cook or watching TV so finding time is no excuse and no need to become a gym bunny.
You will also need to adjust your diet like switching to brown rice and wholemeal bread, start looking at the nutritional information on what you buy. You can still have your unhealthy treats but limit your intake. I'm still addicted to chocolate, have it every day, but ration myself. |

All of the above - fat cant be targeted, muscle can be defined which is nearly the same result, so eat less, exercise more - eat better - cut down on unnecessary fizzy drinks, tomato sauce, sugar in your coffee etc. Planks, as said above are quick easy things to do when youre watching tv, so you're more likely to stick with it!
I work away for 21 days at a time and if take 1 sachet of sauce each time instead of 2 I save 42 a trip, same with sugar - 1 less each cup and I save 126 spoons of sugar!!!!!! Simple things make a massive cumulative difference. |

"fasting works well
i shifter near 6stone last year doing 2 days a week no food"
Seconding this. Also ditching sugar. I went cold turkey on sugar and skipped lunch 3/4 days a week and dropped 6kg in about 2 months |

The biggest factor is food intake, exercise is great obviously and there's some great advice in the comments, but processed foods, sugar and fatty carbs all need to be reduced/cut out, lean proteins, vegetable carbs and steady exercise. Its a lifestyle change, also if your friend is in peri menopause or menopause hormones play a huge part too, |

Pretty much what everyone has already said, calories in versus calories out, moving more adds calories burnt, also holding more muscle burns more calories at rest, you won’t lose fat from a specific place, the body decides where it goes from.
No matter how many sit ups you do, if there’s fat over the top, you aren’t seeing abs.
Good luck OP it’s addictive fun when you start to see progress |

Exercise makes you fitter, stronger, healthier, etc.. but diet is the key to fat loss.

You can't beat nature, when you get to a certain " vintage " , everything you eat just sits. Cut back on the crap , watch what you eat, realistic you can't keep eating the wrong stuff & expect to be fit & toned . |

At the end of the day. There is only a few ways to lose weight. As said you can't target the stomach area.
Exercise more. Move more burn more calories. Eat better. Eat less calorie dense foods. Eat better more nutritional stuffs.
It's all about long term calorie deficit. So you body will learn to burn the deposits and you will loose weight.
I'm currently 7 stone slighter than I was. And still going.
You can all do it. You just have to start with small changes. Drop the sugar in tea. Drink sugar free pop. Less dressing. Less puddings. Walk to the shops. |

Back in Surrey, Dahlings! |
If your friend’s belly resembles a pregnant belly, it could also be visceral fat besides subcutaneous one.
Which will only reduce with diet and exercise.
I decreased my visceral fat dramatically with clean eating- no bread, pasta, sugar, alcohol. No processed foods at all. Lots of lean protein, green vegetables etc.
But my belly is still there haha |

The only way to lose fat/weight is by consuming fewer calories than your body burns
So my advice is:
Use a calorie calculator to calculate how many calories you each burn based on your height/weight/age/Activity levels/Metabolic rate
Track and consume fewer calories than the calculated number (I'm currently on 1800 Calories where my Maintenance level would be around 2200)
Exercise on top for extra calorie burn
Try have as much Protein as possible
If using MyFitnessPal
Look into the Turkey Hack for a year's subscription for £2.20 |

Don't be fooled, the real work happens in the kitchen, not the gym. Although if you have a wicked diet, you can get very good results by swimming 64 lengths 3 to 4 times a week, you could be shredded in 2 to 3 months |

Tell her to not worry about it.
I have a big stomach and it doesn't bother me or the men in my life.
We are supposed to have some fat on our bodies. We can tighten the muscles underneath the fat but we can't decide which bits of fat to get rid of.
Mine goes from my stomach and bum last. |

I'm on a huge weightloss quest at the moment, I'm near 5 stone down in 2 months, I started to lose it on my face, then my neck, the my legs, then my arms and now it's coming off My waist.. I've no control over where... I'm even losing visceral fat (the stuff round your organs).. I've cut all carbs, fat and salts from my diet and eat huge amounts of protein. |

You can't reduce fat on a specific part of your body. To reduce fat overall in the simplest terms you need to burn more calories than you take in, so basically eat less, exercise more (it's a lot more nuanced and what you eat and when you eat it also has an impact). Although be careful not to go too low on calories or your body will go into survival mode and start storing more energy as fat. |

I'll ask her if about these menopause, but I'm sure she would have looked into all this. She dose eat really healthy, I see what she eats everyday and its far less than me. |

"For me, stop drinking beer!"
Yeah she does love a drink, and I have tried to get her to stop drinking. To be fair she only drinks friday night and the weekends and she drinks a bottle of wine. |

"Walk off the belly"
I will tell her this. Good thing is we have a gym at work with threadmills and our plan is she will do 30 minutes every lunch time or we come in an hour before work. It's incredibly difficult for women to lose weight, thier body is just different to men. Its nature. |

Spot fat loss isn't realistic. The body should retain control over where it positions fat. Exercise is also not especially backed up with research evidence, for sustained weight loss.
Dietary changes should be your focus for fat loss, as your principal tool. Exercise is certainly important for our health and is a useful help, to support dietary changes. Building muscle will increase your metabolic rate - it takes more energy to sustain it, compared with fat. |

In all seriousness, if it could be mistaken for a pregnant belly, then there is maybe something else going on there that should be checked out. |

Healthy diet , and crunches , if you have a ( pot ) belly
You cannot focus on belly fat alone unfortunately ( men ) its fat around you intestines and internal if you not overweight anywhere else
Crunches will tone up you stomach muscles , and are easy to do , legs flat up gainst a wall and lift yourself forward till you feel the " burn " then gentle back and repeat , just mind your back
Must done Dailey and don't over do them , your body will let you know when to stop
Walking is also a good way to burn of any fat , very underrated
As for women. !! I cannot comment as they are built different lol , |

There are free calculators that estimate calories to maintain or lose weight. You enter sex, height, weight, age, current daily activity level, your target weight and when you want to achieve it.
I agree with many above, once you know how many calories you can have it's important to try to eat a bit of everything.
I find taking a small lunch and keeping most of my calories for my family dinner works for me. |
