"It's a bit of a minefield when taking a glance cause it could be a 20 something lass or a 14yr old with make-up on.
Best to just ignore at all costs at this point "
I actually hate seeing anybody who looks too young dressed like that. And I do ignore anybody who falls into that category. |

"Looking is fine. Leering less so 💜
Just enjoying a nice view. Nothing more. No pointed looks. No comments. No hassle x"
I mean. The no leering was in response to the stare and drool comment. But okay 💜 |

"The tone of my 1st comment was meant to be jokey. But oh well...
Never woulda guessed it was controversial to enjoy looking at people we're attracted to who are dressed in skimpy outfits."
You're arguing against a position I didn't take. I don't think it's controversial at all to notice or appreciate attractive people. I was only responding to the "stare and drool" part of your joke. There's a pretty big difference between finding someone attractive and leering at them. 💜 |

I repeat: the tone of message 1 was meant to be jokey. I truly don't want to argue with anyone on here. Just trying to be clear. x |

Okay. I apologise for responding to the content of your message rather than the intent 💜 |

It's hard to convey all meaning in text on the internet with people we don't know. Many thanks for the kind apology x |

"What do you do? Politely not look? Pretend not to look? Look sneakily? Or just stare and drool? "
We all look. Where my partner lives there are two different neighbours and they both look great in little shorts.
Although I do get angry about the younger girls walking around in shorts acting as if they’re going clubbing. What happened to innocence of youth? |

There's one guy, well 2 actually, where I live who I actively avoid at all costs because of this.
One works in my local corner shop. He trys to subtle about it but just isn't. If I wear anything other than oversized clothing I can feel his eyes on me. It's pretty disgusting.
Especially as there's younger girls go in that shop. |

"Why are men so incapable of not viewing women as some kind of object for their viewing pleasure?"
Men are visual creatures... This is why some men can't concentrate on a conversation when a woman has a bit of cleavage. Also this is the reason that lingerie was made to begin with.
There's also a reason why strippers don't wear a fully covered outfit.
I thought people knew this?
For me... I just actively avoid looking at skimpy outfits and live in my own world.
If they want to wear that and are over 18 then fine. If they're under it's the parents that should be talked to about it (they're the ones that buy it after all). I couldn't imagine putting a 13/16 year old girl in a thong bikini or some tiny booty shorts |

"
As a woman who thoroughly appreciates another attractive woman in lingerie, all people can be visual creatures.
If a man can't concentrate on a conversation with a woman because he has to look at the cleavage instead, that's a personal issue of self control and nothing to do with having a Y chromosome.
Lingerie was primarily invented and evolved by women, for women, with the goals of physical liberation, comfort, and self-expression 💜 |

It definitely wasn't when Victoria's secret was actually created by a man.
Majority of the fashion industry was and is funded by men. Do you not think they're going to influence what their money is spent on? |

High fashion does have a history of male dominance. Roy Raymond founded Victoria's Secret in 1977 primarily because he felt embarrassed buying lingerie for his wife in public and wanted a comfortable space for male shoppers. Brands like this through the late 20th century popularised the idea that lingerie was designed strictly to appeal to the male gaze.
But, the creation and evolution of lingerie are deeply rooted in women reclaiming their bodies and pushing back against oppressive trends.
Herminie Cadolle cut a corset in half to create one of the earliest bras, aiming to improve women's well-being. Mary Phelps Jacob created the first modern brassiere by tying two handkerchiefs together so she could move freely. Lady Duff-Gordon changed fashion history by popularizing lingerie that was beautiful, lightweight, and freed women from restricting, heavy corsets.
And as much as male lead houses had prominence for the previous few decades, female lead and founded companies have transformed modern intimate apparel by focusing on body inclusivity, comfort, and undergarments designed for a woman's self-confidence. Victoria's Secret currently operates under female leadership by the way 💜 |

Leadership and who created what doesn't really mean much. It's the investors that actually make the final decision really.
If they like the product they'll invest... If they don't then they won't.
And I'm sure when it comes to womens clothing they are investing in what makes them want to see a woman wear.
I doubt they're investing in a nuns outfit.
It's probably the reason why gym shorts are getting shorter and leggings are so tight that you can see the outline of a lasses arsehole and their clit.
Women might have the ideas but overall they don't have the cashflow to be able to build the product. Think of how many female billionaires there are over male billionaires |

The historical dominance of male investors meant they controlled the capital, which dictated what hit the shelves and how it was marketed. For decades, brands like Victoria's Secret claimed that highly sexualised, male-gaze imagery was the only way to sell lingerie. However, the landscape has faced a massive disruption as female founders have completely rewritten the rules.
Brands like Rihanna's Savage X Fenty (valued as a multi-billion dollar market leader) and Kim Kardashian's Skims (valued at over $3.2 billion) proved that radical size inclusivity and daily comfort were actually far more profitable. Many founders can now secure early capital through independent female angel investors or specialized global grants designed specifically to bridge the gender investment gap.
To survive, legacy companies were forced to completely rebrand. Victoria’s Secret famously scrapped its Angels runway show, hired female executives, expanded their sizing, and shifted their marketing to focus on female empowerment rather than male fantasy.
But I'm not really looking to discuss economics with you.
The claim was that men are "the reason that lingerie was made to begin with." I've told you who invented the first versions of lingerie and their reasons. If you're unwilling to consider that maybe in a single circumstance the man's opinion was absolutely irrelevant, then the words of some silly female on the internet aren't going to change anything for you 💜 |
