What’s you favourite whisky

"I like Grouse in a sherry casket as an everyday whisky. Enjoy a nice Dalwhinnie as well."
As a Scotsman your opinion is to be respected sir.
Grouse is a fine utility whisky, great for hot toddies, whisky Mac, porridge, and sorrow drowning.
I’ve always thought Dalwhinnie a little lacklustre, nice bottle but lacking depth. Perhaps it gets better with age, like so many things. |

"Not the biggest whiskey drinker. But Glenfiddich is alright "
You’re quite right. It is alright. I visited the distillery with my Dad as a ten year old boy and it will always have place in my affections.
The triangular shaped bottle makes it easy to squeeze into your drinks cabinet too. |

"Jack Daniel’s single barrel around £50 a bottle
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Around £130-£160
Macallan 18 £300-£400 a bottle
They all taste very good I recommend all of them

"Was a Macallan. I say was as I dont drink now."
You should start again and what better way that a nice glass of Macallan. Life is better when you drink whisky. The word whisky is derived from “water of life”.
If you think of the cash you’ve saved whilst you’ve been off the booze you should be able to afford a decent bottle, 21 year old perhaps. |

"Back when I drank it was wild turkey on the rocks
With a name like _ildbillkid I’d expect you’d walk into a bar and the bar tender would slide the bottle down the bar to you, right?" smile when you say that pilgrim |

Quite like a Japanese single malt.
Also
Used to like Ardbeg but it's too Oakie for me now and have gone off it maybe I've mellowed so now prefer a mellow fruity malt my go to is a 12yo Glenmorangie I know it's commercial but it's consistent and always goes down well .
Another is Cardhu Gold very easy drinking.
Macallan is lush but expensive.
Once you get over £100 a bottle the taste doesn't go up as well it's just snob value.
That said if anyone wants to give me a 30yo Macallan I'll not complain |

"Still working through a delicious Tomatin, got to be up there as one of my favourites now "
Had a nice 16 year old bottle of this given to my dad in2005 for his birthday he passed away in2006 and I saved it, his brother passed 3 years ago and took it down for his funeral and opened it with the family and it was the best I’ve tasted |

"I’ve done a fair bit of research into this subject and will continue to do so.
I’m keen to see what the good folks on Fab think.
What’s your favourite whisky (or whiskey)?"
Glenfiddich (only one I like so not my favourite as such) |

"If drinking Scottish it’s an Ardbeg and my preference for Irish would be laphroaig. Both lovely and peaty.
Laphroaig Irish?????"
That’s a terrible mistake on my behalf there. 🤦🏻♂️
I’m a big fan of laphroiag but have had a massive brain fart and can’t for the life of me recollect what I’ve confused it with. My apologies to the whiskey connoisseurs. I would just like to point out to any ladies who might be reading this thread, that yes you have indeed just witnessed a guy admitting when he’s made a mistake. 😂😂 |

My journey started with Macallan, but has drifted quick significantly.
There is a great whisky shop in Bakewell that is smaller than most bars. He is my downfall!!
Go in, tell them what you like and they present 2 alternatives for you to try. Each time better then the last. (The wee dram shop)
I am currently have two bottleson the go.....
Old Pulterney Costal Series, Port cask matured & a Gordan Macphail

I have about 80 bottles of whisky, and there are certainly a few front-runners.
J&B (The 70s legend, seen in almost every Italian film ever made! Lovely stuff)
Highland Park (Any one of them - you can't miss!)
Laphroaig (Again, all of them are lovely)
Ben Bracken (Lovely drop)
Smokehead Unfiltered (Make from an Islay single malt, with just the right amount of smoke)
Blackland Pecan Bourbon (Heavenly - a strictly limited run, and now going for triple the price the wife got it for)
Wolfie (Rod Stewart's own label, and it's seriously nice) |

"I usually switch between Jura and Penderyn.

Welsh whisky shouldn’t be allowed in my opinion.
I've never really understood the hostility. You're welcome to your narrow world view, though "
I had a lovely bottle of Aber Falls, a very smooth drink |

It really is a beautiful drink, I’m glad you got to drink it and celebrate them both |

"A simple Jameson nothing to exciting
Meh"
I asked at a bar once.. "do you have any whisky?" and the barman said "we've got James on"... So I replied "have you got any whisky?"
I don't think he got the irony
I tried Japanese whisky once, never again!
I used to drink single malts, at least 12yr old like Highland Park or macallan
But I've given up alcohol and not touched it in 15yrs |

My go to decent mid range price is Johnny walker black label. If I'm splashing out a bit more then Glenfiddich single malt. I'm not afraid to admit tho a cheap lonely bourbon normally around 20 quid called buffalo trace is pretty good, beats the hell out of a JD |

I like whiskey's with a unique taste, some faves
Glenfiddich - Fire + Cane
Penderyn - Sherrywood
Old Pulteney - 12 Yr
Bains Single Grain (South African)
Auchentoshan - American Oak
Also The Glenrothes 10 Year was great, sad it's not made any more. 15Yr+ out of my budget.

Funniest thing in the world of whiskey for ages is what happened with Teachers - the staple of the 70s drinks cabinet, and the one your uncle always used to get pissed on at Christmas.
A couple of years ago, they rebranded and positioned themselves as a luxury tipple, making the same stuff they always did but now pricing it with the big-leagues, and subsequently, they raised the price to over £100 a bottle!!
Sales plummeted, as any whiskey drinker knows that it's the same old plonk but now at a ridiculous price. I was stumbling through the internet earlier, and I found that Teachers is now back down to £18.99 a bottle, with a flag on the label with an RRP to that effect!
Yep, it had bombed so badly at a "luxury" price that they've had a major climb-down and gone back to aiming at meth-drinkers with a little money and an equal measure of self-respect. |

Oh I had a delicious bottle that was double casked, first in a rum cask and finished in a sherry I think (might have been the other way around). It wasn’t one of the balvenie ones and I wish I could remember the name because it was bloody lovely. |

I’ve quite a collection certainly over 100 bottles
Favourites are hard as depends on so many factors
Time of year place mood and company are just a few
Bunnahabhain is one of those whiskies that I’ve found fits most situations. But hard to beat a Smokey or peaty whisky with a peat fire burning or that last dram of the evening around a camp fire with your catch of the day cooking by that fire |

Again, the Japanese taking something and making it Soooo much better. "
There are some nice Japanese whiskies but hibiki is nothing special tbh |
