So I've recently decided I need to loose some timber. So I've started on the carnivore diet. For those who don't know you only eat what comes from an animal (meat, cheese, cream, eggs etc).
My question is has anyone done this and have you got any tips or advice?
Thanks x |

Not so long ago it was called the Atkins
It works to an extent like any other food restriction.
After 2 days you will enter a state of ketosis and your body will burn fat as it doesn't have any carb to burn.
You will lose weight and think you've cracked it.
The minute you begin to introduce other foods your body will cease fat burning and burn the carbs you are eating.
If you are on the diet for a long time you will be lacking in vitamins , minerals and other vital nutrients and begin to feel ill.
Your poo becomes weird and uncomfortable , high in fat etc Your live will hate the fat too. Your face will begin to look gaunt.
Stay on it too long and your body will begin to burn muscle which you will regain as fat if you are not careful.
There are many people who swear by it........
Just pay your money and take your choice.
Good Luck

Try a meal a day instead. I found it works better for me than a carnivore diet. I only eat once a day during a 2 hour window. Eat what you I like and keep hydrated with water throughout the day.
Find my digestion system is also a lot healthier. |

"Make sure you're eating enough fat.
For the first two week don't trust farts.
Don't do it, just eat all foods in moderation "
Hahaha YES definitely don't trust them. |

"And milk"
Not sure about Bovril but I would assume it contains other things that's not animal products.
Milk is a grey area, has to be Gold Top if anything as it contains a lot of glucose. X |

You'll lose weight if you're in a calorie deficit, however you create it.
Good to prioritise protein, but make sure you keep training too to keep muscle mass. I'd actually really miss fruit and veg on that diet but good luck!

Thank you, yes I've been trying to get out on my mtb every other day.

What's an MTB? I'd get some resistance training too for muscle building/retention, but does depend on your goal. |

"Have you tried other methods of losing weight before, OP?"
Food has always been a struggle, because this is a strict diet and there is no grey area really I find it easier to manage. I have done a lot of exercise and only changing what I put in my mouth seems to make a difference. |

All diets will bring some reward although it's generally considered that a balanced diet is the best in the long term.
I have a balanced Vegan diet and my weight has stayed stable for over 5 years, whilst my my health and fitness have improved.
Good luck with your diet OP, I hope it works for you. Maybe one day you'll give a plant based diet / Vegan life style ago? You'll be pleasantly surprised how great it can make you feel both mentally and physically. |

Absolute nonsense.
Not eaten a piece of fruit or a vegetable since 2020 - not encountered scurvy yet and managed to build muscle and cut body fat in a way no other previous eating plan has allowed me to do. 52 and in better shape than I was in my 20s.
This is the diet humans are designed to eat - check out the archaeological evidence which compares skeletons pre and post agricultural revolution.
Eat until you are full, eat as much fatty meat until it stops tasting good - your body will tell you - and don’t eat again until you’re hungry, couldn’t be easier.
Check out Dr Anthony Chaffee, Dr Shawn Baker and Dr Ken Berry amongst others and eat what humans are meant to eat 👍 |

The male physiological structure is really quite simple and stable not complicated by ever changing hormones etc. Therefore weight loss for men is just a matter of maintaining a calorie deficit until you achieve your goals. Balance is the key to any diet and that it is able to be maintained for the length of time needed.
I have been a regular gym goer for years and I have seen diets or fads come and go.
My advice would be get your daily maintenance calorie requirement calculated accurately and then develop meal plans to achieve a calorie deficit. Cutting out the regular consumption of alcohol was a game changer for me, and as for wasted calories consumed in milky coffees and sweet and savoury treats are all easy wins.
Our bodies naturally detox at night so if you eat your last meal at 6pm and eat nothing until your breakfast at 7am, that’s the intermittent fast achieved every night.
Good luck with your journey! |

There is no need to call someone's contribution nonsense just so that what you write can be laid down as fact - which it isn't.

Try the modified version, apex predator diet. Meat fat and bone, eaten with your hands.
You're right you do not need the beige class of carbs (cereal, potato, rice, pasta), on a normal healthy diet , fruit and vegetables give you all the carbohydrates you need |

They might have Dr. In front of their names, but not one of them has any expertise or credentials in nutrition.
You see this a lot on the Internet someone with medical training years ago, takes a fairly lucrative area of the Internet like diet or wellness and thinks they can make some money on a side hustle and no one will realise that's not actually their subject.
You see the word Dr. and assume they know what they are talking about. But thier knowledge is probably limited to knowing that the knee bone connects to the thigh bone. Or if they're like my GP, they know how to use Google, and they know the names of some of the drugs you can get |

Your statement "this is the diet humans are designed to eat" intrigued me, so I looked it up; this is what I found:
humans are naturally omnivores, not carnivores. While we possess the biological ability to digest meat and access vital nutrients from it, our bodies are adapted to thrive on a highly varied diet of both plants and animals. The topic is heavily debated across various communities, but the general scientific perspective breaks down into several key areas:
Biological and Anatomical Evidence:
Gut Length: True carnivores have very short digestive tracts to expel meat quickly before it rots. Herbivores have much longer guts to break down tough plant fibers. Humans fall right in the middle, typical of omnivores.
Teeth and Jaw: Unlike big cats or wolves, our teeth aren't designed to bring down prey with just a bite. Instead, we have flat molars for grinding and smaller incisors, backed by the intelligence to use tools to process food.
Nutrient Needs: Humans cannot synthesize all necessary amino acids, and we rely entirely on external sources (either through a heavily varied plant diet or animal products) for nutrients like Vitamin B12.
So not designed to be carnivores then, so now I understand why humans don't have, and never did have sharp claws and super sharp teeth and why were are more adapt at picking fruit and berries than we are at bringing down a gazelle by the scruff of its neck 🤔 |

Humans weren't designed they evolved. And they only started eating beige about 10,000 years ago prior to that they ate whatever was available, kinda grazed like cows on nuts and berries. They never had fridge freezers or 7/11 so if they came across a ripe cherry tree or large amount of fatty meat, there was only one thing to do ....store all that sugar/fat in the body as spare energy.
Looking at how humans used to eat a long time ago isn't always the best wisdom for what to do now |

OP I would say a varied diet with plenty of exercise is a good way to maintain a healthy body but I’m no nutritionist.
One bit of advice that I can give you is having dated body builders in the past that men who have a high meat content with no fruit or vegetables their semen is not very nice at all. Often stronger and more bitter.
Just something to consider :p |
