What road trips have you made or have planned?
I’m planning a road trip to Pompeii going via the route James Bond takes when he follows Goldfinger, via the Deep Purple ‘Smoke on the Water’ hotel on Lake Geneva and then through the Alps for a combination ‘Italian Job’ and ‘Goldfinger’ route down to Pompeii. Hopefully next Easter for 2/3 weeks. |

These references to ‘gold finger’ and ‘Italian job’…you’re talking in code aren’t you. |

Jokes aside… that’s sounds amazing. And I love the Bond theme. |

I did a road trip that started by putting out car onto the ferry in Newcastle that took us to Stavanger in Norway.
We traveled as far south as Montenegro and as far east as Romania before ending up in Estonia.
There were literally hundreds of highlights and way too many to mention here.
That part of the trip lasted approx 6 months and was part of a 2 year adventure. |

It was, if I had the funds, I'd stick a backpack on and travel until I dropped. |

I drove from Málaga to Frankfurt last year, up past Valencia, through France and Switzerland. Couple of highlights were Annecy near the Swiss border, absolutely beautiful, Nimes and Perpignan.
Also been on a few in the US, particularly the Southern states. Drove through Texas, Louisiana, Carolina, Tennessee - lovely people and great food. As a younger single guy I loved it. Parked up in a town for a night or two, did the tourist things, went to a bar in the evening and watched whatever sport was on TV and used the accent to get talking to people. |

On honeymoon, we drove to the South of France in a classic soft top. Hook of Holland down through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, stayed in the French bit of Alsace. Next day through the Alps to Lake Geneva. Following day Lake Como. Day after that was a night in Monaco and then a week in a gite in Provence.
No satnav back then so a few printed maps and a Michelin road atlas. Looking for the green edged roads which designated a beautiful route. 😍 |

Would absolutely recommend Beat at Cinecitta vol 1 as a soundtrack to that sort of road trip. It’s music from 60s and 70s Italian erotica and makes you feel like you’re in an awesome sexy thriller! |

From 1st July I’m road cycling to all the extreme cardinal points of mainland Britain. Starting at Dunnet Head, Scotland finishing at The Lizard, Cornwall 11 days later.
Just for good measure I’ll be taking in the highest point on the highest road. The lowest point on the lowest road. The point furthest from the sea and centre point of mainland Britain defined by centroid measurement.
If anyone here cycles and wants to tag for a few kms or longer let me know and I’ll share route details….
