Good folks 👋🏻😃
The other week, whilst out walking my pooch, I came across something that I haven’t seen since I was a child; a slow worm.
It made my day in fact and I picked up and moved the slithery little fella off the path for their safety.
So….what unusual natural sights have you come across recently?
It could be a rare animal, insect or even a plant….anything in nature in fact 😃

For the last 5 years there have been sightings nearby of 2 parakeets (obviously escaped or released).
The other week I went for a walk in the woods and spotted them, and they had a baby with them.
Last month we also saw our first grass snake (actually we saw 2) |

I’ve only ever seen a grass snake once in my life, many, many moons ago.
I have seen Adders on more than one occasion however - and give them a respectful wide berth 😃 |

"We’ve had grass snakes in our garden. They are beautiful, although it can be a bit shocking if you come across one accidentally and without warning!"
Frogs are also some right little buggers for making one jump out of one’s skin; I was clearing some brush out the back a while back and one VERY suddenly leapt right at me out of seemingly nowhere 😱😱😂😂 |

"Well maybe not so rare but I like it when the local buzzard takes flight and empties the sky"
Where I am, the Buzzards and Red Kites seem to have a respectful understanding of territory and flight paths. The buzzard is usually patrolling in a smaller, more specific area whilst the kites generally avoid the said location and swoop through the skies everywhere else. |

"Frequently have Red kites over the house and the golf course I play has, deer, badgers, stoats, waterfowl, Red Kites, Buzzards and Kestrels aplenty "
The Kite is wonderfully majestic.
The problem we are having with them here though is that they have gotten so used to humans feeding them that they have taken to swooping down and stealing food right out of unsuspecting peoples hands 😱 BBQ’ing for instance, is a hazardous undertaking now 😵💫😵💫 |

Yeah I live close to a “ reintroduction “ location and the population has really taken off. People are feeding them in their gardens. Not heard of any BBQ incidents though. That would be scary |

"I often get a red kite flying around my garden and in the field next to me, this year it’s been a pair and such a lovely sight"
They seem to come further up the M40 every year. They'll all f**k off back home once they reach Brum. |

"My cat annoyingly brings me slow worms, voles and mice as "gifts".
Not the sort of gifts i want really"
I read somewhere that it is a sign of their love for their owners.
I mean, that’s nice and all but I’d much rather they bring me something from Greggs for instance… 😜 |

A while ago I was walking along a footpath on a residential street and saw a chicken standing at the edge of the road. Obviously escaped from a garden but I loved that it looked like it was going to cross the road |

Well, I saw a Heron on the sheaf in Sheffield today, probably going after small rats.
At hone in Leeds Red kites are common over our house and I know of two pairs of kestrels down tge local fields- want to get a good photo but they're like cats I that they have a secret sense for cameras.
Need to go to my local RSPB sites to get photos of the hatchlings |
