When making a cuppa do you leave the tea to brew or to steep?

The right answer is obviously steep😉

I use both terms. Thinking about it (which is never done before you brought it up OP), I tend to use 'brew' when I'm making a good old builders tea, and 'steep' for an infusion/herbal tea.

If you press the tea bag against the side of the mug with your spoon you are mashing it.

I think tea steeps and tea bags brew, or posh people just say steep, but all the recipes for nice tea say steep

Transsexual Transylvania

Does nobody in this country refer to it as letting the tea draw?? Is this only a colonial thing? No-one I knew in South Africa would steep or brew tea, it was always left to draw.

🤨

Brew. That's the word used for making tea, overall. What's happening under the hood is a steeping process, one of many things happening to the tea leaves.

Brew or mash, both were interchangeable when I was growing up.

Steep is what you do by leaving porridge to steep overnight.

Had an afternoon tea once and I complained that my tea bag had slit......Sir, we dont serve tea bags here! Was the reply to my complaint. Apparently, the strainer supplied was a clue to it being loose tea leaves 🙄 place was far too posh for this rough un!

But anyways...Brew!
