According to figures released by Solace there is an increase of 38% in incidences of domestic violence whenever a match is lost. Surprisingly there is also an increase of 26% when a match is won.
How can a game that brings fear to so many ever be considered 'beautiful'? |

It’s not football inflicting domestic violence it’s weak people (in this context mostly men) inflicting their inability to control their emotions on others, and always only against those where they have a physical advantage.
They are vermin. |

Its not football, thats just an excuse
Anyone who has insufficent selfcontrol to manage their emotions will always find an excuse for how they lash out
If it wasnt football it would be something else |

Regarding DV rates you might want to read my op again. |

"Many beautiful things are incredibly toxic or harmful.
Visually stunning does not equate to morally good and never has 💜
Are you suggesting that this is just the nature of things?"
....No.
Just a response to "How can a game that brings fear to so many ever be considered 'beautiful'?"
The domestic violence figures are not new, they've been around for years. Of course it's terrible and shouldn't be a thing. But if you're suggesting the violence is to be blamed on the football rather than the actual perpetrators not being capable of controlling themselves I'm not sure where to go with it 💜 |

If it helps OP, there's also surges in domestic violence linked to Christmas, beautiful weather, and sudden large financial windfalls.
It doesn't mean never play the lottery or work hard enough to get a great bonus at work, because if you win or get that big bonus then you personally are more likely to beat the spouse up.
It more means people who need to control their spouse get more reactionary when things happen. |

It's not the game, there are lots of decent men who follow the game.
Unfortunately lots of complete twats seem to align with it, just to cause trouble. Look at the hooligans who support certain teams.
I don't consider it the beautiful game, but then it's not my thing, T all. |

Maybe it's not the game itself. Maybe it's the disproportionate importance placed upon it, not only by the hoi polloi (who it was originally intended to pacify), but by the much of the world at large.
Maybe it's the ridiculous amounts of money behind it, money that would better spent elsewhere. Maybe it's how the players have become so exalted in the eyes of the masses and made the heroes of the modern age regardless of the fact that their sole talent lies in an ability to get some trapped wind to go in a certain direction when they hit it with their foot and would, on the whole, remain distinctly mediocre otherwise.
Maybe it's not the game itself, maybe it's all that instead. It would be interesting to compare the figures to cricket results for example or curling. |

Part of the reason for my utter disdain for the England international team is how a certain portion of fan base behave this only makes it far worse, so a certain percentage cope with a loss by beating on their lass and consequently others (or the same ones maybe?) celebrate a win by also beating on their lass? Ffs howay man |

Its nothing to do with the football. Probably a lot of alcohol involved and the fact some people are just scum. |

I think the increase in violence, particularly domestic violence, during the world cup (or following most football matches) is more likely linked to an increase in alcohol and drug use. Speaking as someone who’s ex was absolutely vile and abusive when he’d had a skinful, it always felt inevitable when the football was on. I think a football match just gives some men an excuse to get pissed up and go on like absolute cretins. |

Not just football many major sporting events can correlate with an increase in domestic abuse incidents.
Factors such as emotional stress, alcohol consumption, and betting activities before, during, and after matches can act as triggers in relationships where abuse is already present.

To be fair, you don't really see it with football these days. I don't particularly class people who go on the beer all day when England play, to be football fans. They're just out on the beer for an excuse. I'm a genuine football fan, every home and frequently away too. I never see any trouble, hardly anything at all for years and that's following Birmingham. We've not exactly got a clean cut image.
The problem with football is that because of its history, it attracts the kind of people you talk about when the big tournaments are in play. I stopped going the pub to watch England games some years ago because of the type of people that were in attendance. They had no interest in the game and thus, trying to watch a game in a busy pub is impossible because there are too many distractions. They're just pissheads who latch on to football for a day out, they couldn't tell you anything about the game they've supposedly just watched.
There are plenty of d*unkenness problems at cricket, it's an all-day drink fest. Horse racing too. In fact, horse racing is in a right shoddy state. I would advise you never to book a hotel room close to a horse racing venue when there's a meet in, your weekend stands a fair chance of being ruined by absolutely shot-faced neanderthals in suits.
It's not fair to compare football to the above sports purely because of the attendance figures. There are non-league teams pulling more numbers than first class cricket matches.
There have been major problems at rugby league too over the past few years.
Most of the anti-football comments on this site are born purely out of ignorance, people haven't got a clue what they're talking about.

Unfortunately i can't find any figures from other sports to enable a direct comparison. Interestingly similar spikes can be seen with the American NFL.
Here there is a correlation. Both are of overinflated importance in society, both are driven by money and both worship their clubs and players. |

I think you'd find that if this was investigated properly, alcohol(or other substances)would be the major contributory factor. |
