"Not to sound like a prophet of doom, but with this technology, what's to stop the baddies using this for bioterrorist purposes?"
It’s not terrifying new science Holly. Treatments for several cancers and HIV already use virus based tech for the cell assimilation capabilities. |

Yeah that's true, good point.
It's just when I hear of new things AI can do, for some reason my brain thinks of the negative impact.
I think I need to stop watching YouTube videos about it. |

We really have to understand that what is referred to as Artificial Intelligence is not actually intelligence.
Machine learning and pattern matching does not equal intelligence….
Intelligence requires the understanding of consequences of results and actions.
For that you need understanding which means something with intelligence need to have consciousness and self awareness theses current applications have neither…
As artificial consciousness does not exist artificial intelligence does not exist….
To put it simply you can show these applications a picture of a cat and it will identify that the picture is of a cat but it doesn’t know what a cat is… |

"Have you ever noticed the small caveat notice at the bottom of most AI results on the internet, ‘AI can make mistakes’… "
This is a get out clause for people who use AI to harm others. "The machine made the mistake, not us". We'll hear this regularly when AI targets civilians with drone strikes in third world countries. |

Whilst I agree with your premise that artificial consciousness does not exist, some newer models of AI do possess intelligence.
They have the in-built capability to better themselves and create a newer better version within milliseconds, numerous times.
This is the scary part of AI, because it could overtake humans in terms of innovation and create things mankind is not ready for. |

I asked ChatGPT if it knew what a cat was.
*****
I can recognize cats across millions of variations, answer questions about their biology, predict how they behave, explain why kittens purr, compare cats with foxes, and even reason about fictional cats.
.
But I don't experience a cat.
.
I have never stroked one.
I've never heard one purr.
I've never been scratched by one.
I don't possess subjective experience.
.
Whether that means I "understand" cats is a philosophical question that nobody has settled.

The US have been perfectly capable of that without AI for many years 😂 |

What you say is not intelligence but machine learning…
Intelligence requires consciousness these so called A.I. do not have that therefore they are not intelligent.
But what they are capable of is learning, modifying and pattern matching. That is not the same as intelligence. |

The AI is bad enough but it's the actual people who own them, that concerns me, for the future of the world. . I'd not relish putting my life in their hands.
As for AI designing a new virus, that's now been created. It's great that the virus could help the world. The proof of concept, that current AI can do it, could be an awful starting point for harmful viruses etc being designed and created. |
