Scarborough

Some areas have counselling organisations where you can get free sessions with newly qualified counsellors who just need more experience.

I’ve done that in the past and the counsellor was very good.

In a galaxy far far away

The govt recently announced new mental health walk in centres.

There is Golden Hillock Community Day Care Centre, in Birmingham offering this service.

Firstly, well done for speaking up! It's a massive step you've taken already, feel proud of that!

Secondly, even though NHS waiting lists are massive, best get yourself registered as quickly as possible. Google "Birmingham healthy mins" or "West Midlands healthy minds" and do a self referral form. Although it might take a while to get face to face sessions, in the meantime they have lots of other resources that can be accessed individually or provide group learning sessions. I've used them in the past and found it really helpful.

For more immediate help and support, Google "Mind Side by Side, which is an online forum community support resource by Mind, the mental health charity. Again, I've been using it and it's a great help.

Hope this helps, take care of yourself!

Not all free counselling is done by newly qualifieds, many counsellors volunteer as they believe in helping and are not motivated by money.

Use the internet to search there are many agencies who do not charge.

Look especially for Mens groups and clubs and a HUGE well done to you for reaching out

Sorry you're going through this, OP.

I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Andy's Man Club. Have a Google for your local one. They are usually on on a Monday evening I believe. 🫶🏼

Thanks for posting this. My mental health is really bad, and I got discharged from NHS talking therapies for missing a couple of appointments due to physical health issues. It's hard to find decent resources that are free. I feel like the NHS want to give up on you as quickly as possible due to demand outweighing supply.

You don’t say whether you are diagnosed but maybe speak to your GP as you might benefit from a meds as well as talking/ group therapy?

Best of luck with it

I could be wrong but I'm sure there is a club similar to Andy's man club, for women. Maybe someone else will know the name of it. If you ever want to chat to a random woman on the Internet, my inbox is open 🫶🏼

That’s such a shame and seems really unfair if you couldn’t attend your talking therapy appointments because of other health issues. I agree, it often feels like the NHS want you out the door and signed off as quick as possible ☹️ You may find the following helpful as well:

National Directories:

• Hub of Hope: Database to search for local or online women's groups by entering your postcode and filtering for women-specific services.

• Mind: Offers "Side by Side," an online community open to adults.

Charities supporting women:

• Young Women’s Trust: Offers coaching, mental health resources, and additional support specifically geared toward young women aged 18 to 30.

• WISH: A national charity that provides trauma-informed support, peer connection, and advocacy for women experiencing mental health difficulties.

• For Women Cic: Provides peer-to-peer talking groups and wellbeing sessions designed by and for women.

Social groups:

• Meetup - women’s social groups around the uk - dining out, movies, dancing, drinks.

• Lonely girls club - nationwide community helping women connect and make friends

• We Got You Boo - kind girl meet ups around the uk

• Girls On The Go - creative painting workshops, book clubs, running clubs, yoga and pilates

• Ladies Circle - modern vibrant friendship group for women ages 18-45, across uk and Ireland

Hope you feel much better soon 🫶🏼🌷

There are few men's groups on FB. There's one that operates out of Castle Brom so depending on which side of SC you are, that may not be so far. It's not couselling,it's just guys getting together and talking about their issues but it may help.

Well done for reaching out. So many wonderful resources and organisations listed here

Also consider if your employer offers an Employee Assistance Programme, there is sometimes access to in person counselling sessions via that.

If they do, don't be put off its via work, they are external organisations who don't tell your employer.

I really hope you find the support you need.
