I've read some stuff. I don't know why they do, but some people need proof.
Here's some
(Bear with me, there's detail).
When I was 17 I got introduced to . I smoked it for 12 years at a rate of about £100 a week.
Then I moved to a country where I couldn't get any. Within a few weeks I was getting laid. I got laid so much that it turned into a game. At 4:44am each day I would have to be having sex. I also started smoking cigarettes.
Then I got married and the sex stopped. I started eating. I ate myself to 140kg. Cakes, biscuits, chocolate, everything. I got so unhealthy that two of my discs in my back popped. I had stopped smoking cigarettes.
Then I came back to the UK and met someone who helped me realise just how fat I was. My marriage was over and I was chasing this person. The thought of being with her took me down to 115kg. We got together, it didn't work.
Now, here's the proof that some people seem to need:
I now had no motivation and no coping strategies. My mind was looking for something to chase. It was sugar, again.
I know that if you eat like crap you'll get fat. I knew it before. I'm not an idiot. But, that sugar had a hold on me. To the point that donuts in the office caused anxiety. Real actual anxiety. In me, a 50 year old man who knows better.
Why, if I know what sugar does, did I eat it? Why did denying myself the sugar cause such distress? Why did I always give in and slam cakes at 11pm?
Why could I not get through a day of domestic tasks with drinking? Why did the Jack get me off the bed, and why can I down half a bottle in a day and the only thing I want to do is work?
No proof yet.
But...
When I reached the dosage of medicine that I need, it stopped. I sit here now with no cravings for anything. I'm down to 100kg and the weight is still dropping. Why am I not craving sugar anymore? How did I decorate my front room last weekend without alcohol? How can I eat meat and veg for dinner, and it be enough? How is now, and only now, that I know what it feels like to have a full stomach?
These are measurable changes to my physiology due to medication that would otherwise make someone hyper.
The issue we have is that people who don't understand it think it's about behaviour or a lack of attention. I'm a bit hyper, I must have ADHD. But it's not that. It's dopamine dysregulation.
I am healthier. I am calmer. I can plan and make better decisions. I am responsible. I am in control. For 49 years, I wasn't. I have ADHD-C, and I always have. I just didn't know. |

Welcome to the club and thanks for speaking your mind. Dopamine dysregulation is the leading cause of anxiety and depression in people with ADHD. My weight has also fluctuated over the years, my food consumption got out of hand and in the end I had gastric sleeve surgery to make it impossible for me to over eat. I'm not medicated as awaiting diagnosis as only got diagnosed as "hyperactive" as a child as was common for girls with ADHD in yhe 80s. My son has a diagnosis of ADHD and chooses not to medicate but it is a personal choice. Some swear by it and some dislike how it makes them feel. There's far more coping strategies and more help for managing ADHD without medication now. What a great time to be alive as long as you get your diagnosis it will all be made available to you.

I like a lot of people never believe or was not very understanding of adhd and other similar things .
It's been a learning curve for me. after seeing difference in a step child when on medication or not on it. I still dont claim to fully understand and need to bite my tongue somedays when there not had medication a simple task becomes like you asking to climb a mountain bare foot. |

I can relate to that and I do understand that people have issues that relate to there physical well being , I discovered i had a thyroid issue in my 30s , and they gave that a name, I just felt ridiculously tired at times and they could days without any real sleep . My gp diagnosed me with depression !? It wasent until a militry nurse said I should push for a thyroid test ,
My only issue with Adhd is its wording , and people using it as an excuse for there failing when in reality its an easy go to excuse, BEFORE people jump down my throat and class me as a vile person or someone with empathy,Im not talking about the genuine people im talking about the people who have read the symptoms or seen a documentary and suddenly they have it 🤣 the people who claim disability because they have anxiety due to say there gf leaving them or because there boss asked them to something , people are making mountains out of mile hills for general day to day issues we all go through
I have seen and done some absolutely horrific things in my time as have many others so to ME people claiming benefits because they cannot cope with life and USE adhd or MH issues is very annoying
Maybe people dontbwont to think people abuse the system , but so many do , and its a shame because if they dident more could be done to help those who do have genuine issues |

It's sad and annoying that people-usually strangers online who read/watch propaganda-need to force people who are suffering to explain themselves. All because the people who are supposed to be helping them want to cut benefits.
I know loads of people who vote Reform who stupidly think they'll be better off if they govern our country and cut peoples' access to benefits. They're the same fools who think he gives a shit about them and their struggles with living expenses.

Compassion for the less fortunate and vulnerable people has gone out of the window. I am only interested in those that need our help not the few that may or may not play the system. The disabled and those in need are treated despicably in our country recently for ephemeral political gain. Those assessments and stuff they have to endure in more recent years have driven some of them to even suicide. I dont want to be part of anything that encourages or advocates that sort of treatment. And I am out as the focus of the thread was different and noone should be hijacking that. |

I always vote for the ones that have no hope of ever getting in because there all the same and promise the world and give nothing , when was the last time we got a new party in and any actually made the changes they promise the only reason there clamping down on pip fraudsters is because of the increase in cases ( which we all have seen ) and its something reform are pushing , so there hoping to pry away some of there votes , |

No we haven't. Do you do research or just echo what Farage et al spouts when he's desperate for votes?
In 2024 the rate of PIP fraud was negligible and put at 0%.
2025 was reported as 0.4%.
Fraud is also used to describe mistakes where benefits are concerned.
More errors and fraud are committed on Universal Credit claims. You can commit fraud by not understanding something on your claim form and filling it in incorrectly.

Look, I understand your point of all this and yes there are people they will misuse adhd for their own benefits despite not having it, but that’s across the board with all disabilities, but you feel very strong about ADHD seeing you trying to put it across multiple threads now shows me that you need a bit more life yourself then trying to convince others to have one.
Your approach is basically telling someone with depression to cheer up, that’s not the solution either.

I am a different person when I am not taking medication.
Especially with my mind being overwhelmed I no longer bite the inside of my cheek until it bleeds when I'm anxious nor do I chew or pull my hair out and I can sit in a room without my leg shaking like an addiction going cold turkey.
I can wear jumpers and t shirts without ruining the cuffs or collars from chewing them.
All things I was reprimanded for as a child which turned out to be stims.
I still have doom piles but they are piles and not mountains and I don't get up countless times a night to check if we have run out of ketchup or if I remembered to feed the fish
But sometimes now and again the random things are visible but not quite as bad as they had been I've still to learn my face not to react

Exactly this.
Are your doom piles because you saw ADHD online and want the label? I mean shit, that's what we all want, isn't it? An inability to put things away. Not a lazy habit, but a dysregulation of dopamine meaning your mind just can't see that job as one you need to do. Much better to start the 1000 piece jigsaw you've been overthinking for the last month.
I like burning dinner. I like arguing the point long after the point has been forgotten. I like apologising for every thing I've ever done, and the unnecessary guilt and shame associated with it all.
It's all a choice so I can say I'm special.
Queue up ladies, a perfectly normal relationship awaits. And all thanks to a social construct.
But, seriously now, I bet you are dynamite in the sack. I bet you're intense. I bet you're eye contact and sensation. I bet your can read your partner's every move, hear every sound, taste every taste.
Because that's the plus that we don't discuss. ADHD makes us so in tune with body language and subtle cues. Pair that with the dopamine chase and we are the most attentive lovers, ever.
It's not about the orgasm, is it. It's about them. It's about their everything. It's about seeing who they truly are in that moment of sexual arousal.
You are next level, I have no doubt |
