Buying Beans v Ground Coffee
Which is better value for money?
Which provides better tastes?
And most importantly..
What has the highest snobbery factor to it?

Buying beans is best for both taste and value for money. I was discussing this with someone recently and coffee is a fresh product. If it's all ground at once, it's more exposed in the open and will stale a lot quicker and you lose a lot of those aromatics that come with grinding fresh. The coffee you taste on day one will be vastly different to what you get at the end of the bag. |

Good point! Freshness is certainly one factor, and cost.
The big one for me is choice, beans are anywhere and everywhere in every different kind you could want.
However with pre-ground you're limited in your selection of what is out there |

I'm not really sure how big the selection is between the two but I know that if you're buying it from a coffee shop, you can ask them to grind it for you for whatever you're using to make your coffee; cafetiere, pourover, espresso etc. |

If you can get them Yirgacheffe beans have a flavour I really enjoy. I think it's a Kenyan bean 🤔 I'm afraid I can't give you an actual brand name or retailer though o just buy the beans if ever I see them |

Just started grinding my own. Total game changer on flavour. Almost as big a difference as going from freeze dried crap in the supermarket to ground at a roastery for the first time. The flavour is so much richer. |

I believe they're Ethiopian and it's named after the region. But I agree with you, I also like Kenyan coffee too. Colombian coffees pretty much dominate the market too. |

I would say both. I buy freshly ground beans at point of sale, to use in a French Press (Cafetière).
I go through the bag relatively quickly and so it's usually fresh, as opposed to ground coffee from a supermarket that can often fester once it's opened.
I agree with Joe' in that grinding exactly what you need in piecemeal will give you the 'freshest' taste. (I think I understood that). |

I have a machine which grinds beans, can have anything from a cappuccino to a iced latte, save more money, tastes nicer than coffee shops too and it’s unlimited without spending £5 every time I want a coffee, so beans will always win |

I'm a lazy fuck, and have an unrefined palate, so I just have one of those pod machines.
But my brother's gf is Sicilian, and so (obviously) takes coffee (as with anything else food-related) VERY seriously.
I would always gush about how nice their coffee was whenever I went round, so when she told me they did pods, I did a little happy dance.
So now I buy Caffe Borbonne Blue - and they're cheaper than the Nespresso shit too! Bonus  |

I like to mix and match with mine to try what's out there.
I got my beans from Coaltown Roasters, Black Gold is a favourite of mine
They grind it for you aswell |

I've got an Espresso Machine, with a separate Bean Grinder, and frother too. But these kind of machines are starting to appeal to me, the Ninja Deluxe looks quality |

I always buy whole beans from a roaster. The difference between what you get from a roaster and the supermarket is night and day.
If you have the set-up, then grind the beans yourself right before you make your coffee.
With good beans and a decent coffee machine and grinder you’ll probably stop buying coffee from the chain coffee shops |

I agree with yirgacheffe, a lovely bean. There’s a few places near me that roast their own beans, I like trying those. I do prefer to grind my own with a hand grinder. I’ve just retired my bean to cup machine. Convenient but doesn’t taste as good as a nice pour over |
