Did you not contact them before you moved? Or look into school before you decided to move?

My brothers move regularly and always check out the local schools to make sure they want to move to that area first. Did you not check out the area especially in Bradford as some schools are not the best?

Im not over keen on home schooling as i think kids need interaction and not segregation

Google will guide you.. There are very likely to be homeschooling communities in your area so your children won't be completely isolated by any means. Homeschooling sites ought to provide materials, and I believe if you register as a homeschooler, you recieve materials such as books at a discounted rate. Good luck!!

I home educated one of my daughters from year 8 onwards. She's currently studying for a degree in History and also holds down a good job. I made sure she had plenty of interaction with other kids (cadets etc)so socialising was never a problem.

An excellent source of advice is the home schooling group, 'Education Otherwise' - google it

PM me if you want any more info.

are you intending to do it for three weeks or as an alternative. If only for three weeks it might be an idea to find out what's on the curriculum for those weeks.

I had no idea that it took that long to get kids into school.

got offered the house just as schools broke up ...contact the schools directly that i have looked into ...to be informed that all admissions are now done through the council....filled in.forms and sent off ...phoned council regularly through the holidays to be informed on friday ...that it will now take about 15 school days for them to do an transfer....the only admissions a school does now are admissions to a nursery

I certainly wasn't questioning you about the way you've done this. The fact that you're concerned enough over the there week delay to consider home schooling shows that you are interested in your childrens education and none of us know why you've moved. I hope you can get this sorted quickly if you deliberately kept your kids out of school there would be hell to pay but it seems the authorities can do it quite legally.

Wasn't it previously the case that if you lived in a certain street you went to a certain school?

No 'placement requests' or 'demands for transport' or 'I don't like the colour of the uniform' nonsense.

It was but now we have choice apparently. For most people there is no choice in reality but it makes the authorities look good and that is what really counts.

I rather thought there might be Hobson's Choice in this matter but, if that's the case, why is there such a faff about allocating places?

that was the case at one stage ...so was been able to apply to school directly which i tried ....its now all down to the local authority to deal with admissions now

I appreciate advice is the last thing you want but, were it me, I'd take the weans to the nearest school at 8.45am tomorrow, leave them outside the head teacher's room, go shopping and switch my 'phone off.

The local authority will soon sort them out.

I expect there are "procedures". As I said can you imagine if the op was deliberately keeping her kids away, she would have the authorities down on her like a ton of bricks.

I imagine a social services visit would also be sorted out if you dumped your children in that way.

My one bit of advice would just be to have a sort of timetable of when will be work time and when will be free time, so they don't just feel like they are 'off school'.

Good luck

Brighton - even Hove!

It's not parental choice - it's parental preference, which the local educational authority (the local council) need not take a blind bit of notice of.

BBc Bitesize might be quite a useful resource.

Oh and using sites like BBC Bitesize to go over some of the things they did last year will help, they might not be learning anything new but you can consolidate what they already know at least.

Good plan. As unauthorised trespassers in a school, a PCSO/school liaison officer will be called and they'll want 'a word' with you after they have picked your kids up and you have to go to the police station to collect them. It'll be a great day's education for them.

I also moved during the holidays. After spending weeks on phone to education, laat Monday I walked up to the village school, told them id just moved here and my son needed a school to go to.. there reply no problem pop back tuesday and we will sort it..

3pm monday my phone rings its the head teacher to say come to school thursday 8:55 fill in the forms then and he can start of he comes in school uniform.

So much quicker than going through education xx

Hope you get it sorted soon xx

You need to complain about this to the council and to your local councillor, possibly your MP too.

The local authority has a duty to provide an education, and parents can be prosecuted for not ensuring children get a suitable education.

That behaviour would result in school making an immediate referral to the local childrens social work and referral team i.e SOCIAL SERVICES!

It's the same in Calderdale (we're virtually neighbours ) the schools can't do anything. I was dropping my kids off at breakfast club yesterday and saw a family come in with a small boy wearing uniform for that school, and clutching a letter saying they hadn't been allocated to that school! All they can do is send them down to the council offices to appeal.

I wonder of you contacted your MP for help of anything could be moved along. I have no idea what's involved in allocating a school place but as I said before if you took your kids out of school you'd be in trouble and possibly fined.
