Have you ever believed with the minority rather the majority of what people are saying? Whether it's something you have seen on the news or something that's closer to home. |

" I have a mind of my own, I believe what I believe, I feel no need to agree or go along with the masses, if I do , I do...its not for acceptance.

Revolution starts with one man, everything begins as a minority. |

Example. 5 people come up to you. 4 people say one thing and the 5th person says the opposite. Who do you believe? |

Very politically incorrect, but I clearly remember a cartoon in the Rhodesia Herald before the country attained majority rule in 1980. A schoolboy was being chastised for the sum on the blackboard 2+2=5, The caption was " But Sir, the MAJORITY of the class thinks I am right!"....... |

Actually that's called being "nosey" . Say you walked into an argument and you asked what's happened and you get 2 stories. You go with the minority or majority if you class them as the same closeness to you? |

" I wouldn't walk into an argument I am always aware that from the two sides of an argument you can take 50% from one side and 50% from the other and you may get a half truth between. |

Ok. You see a mess in the floor and ask whose responsible and 4 people say it's one person and they claim it's of the 4. Who you believe them? Trying to find out if people ever go with minority on here, lol. |

Yes of course - if the minority is more plausible and the evidence suggests they are correct! It's not about numbers, it's about validity of the argument! |

That's what I mean. But have you ever done that. Chosen minority over majority and were you right to do so? |

Absolutely I will do so all the time. And in my view yes, if I look at evidence for myself and make my own mind up and I feel the majority is wrong.
What context do you have in mind? |

As I've said already. The examples I have listed for a start. You come in and see a bad situation and you want to know what's happened. All the blame is pointed at the ration 4 to 1. Despite that 1 pleading their innocence. Who do you believe. If there was evidence to support both sets of people. Do you go with the majority then? |

Not necessarily, no, because it is never a question of the numbers, only the truth of the matter! Maybe I am missing your point.....? |

Well the point was of you stumbled across a situation where the thing in question annoyed you in some way and you asked what's happened and there was no evidence and it was just a matter of taking someone's word for it. Does the minority of numbers ever get priority over majority, ever? |

Yes, definitely. For instance if the one person was someone who's character you know and trust. Or if you decide to defend the underdog. Or if you feel they are in the right. Otherwise you are just talking about mob rule?
If all other things are equal you might decide to go with the majority view - like 50 scientific papers in support of an argument and only 1 or 2 against. |
