Reading C n S's thread about budget meals.

Many people have said eggs in one shape or form.

I USED to think eggs but now I need a mortgage to buy six....

What else is no longer a cheap option ?

Fruit, the sad fact is it's cheaper to buy a multipack of crisps in some places compared to a bag of Apple's or oranges

My eggs come from my own chickens. Haven't brought any for years.

Bread has really gone up but I bake my own. It's cheaper tastes a million times better and doesn't have anything in there that's not supposed to be.

Best place for eggs is Aldi. £2.29 for 15 free range.

Lets be honest here everything has gone up and what the price hiking idiots don't realise is we buy what we need now not what we want anymore.

Porridge for breakfast. Bake your own bread in bread maker, grow your own veg for dinners and soups, slow braise cheap cuts of meat and eat veg meal twice a week. Always use up scraps in stir fry, or pasta bakes. I buy own brand tin tomatoes, beans and spaghetti. Put Heinz tomato ketchup into beans and spaghetti can't taste difference.

Thy are also poor quality. I buy 'Roosters' 99% of the time either £2 (offer) or £2.50 and even some of these have dents and marks/bruises. You can though tell exactly what farm and who grew them.

Perhaps I should send the dodgy ones back direct to them

Totally agree about growing own stuff.

I mentioned own chickens but I also have a number of fruit trees and bushes and grow veggies too.

Quite lucky here, used an abbatoir shop for our meat for ages. Very good deals and good quality. Fresh fruit and veg is expensive but we buy lots for curries, stews etc and freeze them when made. Let's face it, anything that's good for you is expensive yet you can fill your trolley with crap for very little

Tuna has definitely hiked up. I can't justify buying fruit and veg from supermarkets now as the prices give me a mini heart attack. - Market stalls only for me (PANDABOWL!!! ), plus you get a good work out hauling it all home.
