The PR guru Max Clifford has been found guilty of sex charges in his trial at Southwark Crown Court.

Clifford was convicted of eight counts of indecent assault, cleared of two and the jury was unable to reach a verdict on one other.

Members of Clifford's staff collapsed in tears in the public gallery after the verdicts were announced this afternoon.

Was that his punishment, or his means of finding out if he was guilty or not

His punishment will be decided on Friday by someone who is qualified to make such a decision.

Qualified?? look at the prison terms given to individuals for different crimes then tell me they are qualified. Do you know what qualifications you need to be a magistrate?

Not sure I like the idea that anyone can be convicted of 'historical offences' on the statements of those claiming to be the victims of the crimes. I know I would find it hard to supply alibis for my whereabouts this time last month let alone years ago.

I just hope that the jury were not prejudiced against Clifford because of some of the more unsavoury characters he has represented and defended over the years. but I guess he has been found guilty and therefore must be so.

If I am not mistaken I don't think anyone can apply for the job of a judge.

This was a Crown Court trial, so there's a judge, not magistrates.

Shows even with all his money and power he could not get out of it .... Even if years ago his victims had to live with that each day . I hope now they will find some sort of peace ..

I know. I was just pointing out that they dont have to be as qualified as such. They sentence from guidelines and opinions. Same as a magistrate only more serious crimes.

" Do you know what qualifications you need to be a magistrate?"

Some...

I also know that unless a stipendiary magistrate (in which case you are a qualified lawyer) is sitting a magistrates court has a clerk who is appointed by the Lord Chancellors department to advise magistrates as to the law and has a legal duty to ensure that magistrates apply the law. I also know that those who are selected to serve as JP's have to attend training courses run by the Lord Chancellors department where they learn their responsibilities and duties before they ever set foot in a court to render judgement and dole out justice.

He'll probably write a book. Isn't that what all the famous and rich do when sent to jail.....all that free time. After all what's the chance that he'll be in general population.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I hope these are safe convictions.

He has been found guilty and he will be sentenced and that is what the justice system is for.

As to being a magistrate, you can apply and go through the selection and training process. It's not a glorious, glamorous role. You are unlikely to get this sort of case either.

I knew a magistrate who used to her time (20hrs a week) sitting in a dingy little office in a Victorian building signing GATSO speeding convictions and licence enforcements for a large part of the North West. In winter she used to wear a coat and still freeze and in summer she used to slow cook.

He deserves prison for many years. He should,(but won't be) given a "Truth Drug", as I bet this bastard knows much about Jimmy Saville and other similar sorts.

In my ideal world there would be a Hospital Ward of pedos left in a chemically induced coma, until such time as there organs are required to save the life of an innocent!!

Move to China...

They harvest organs from those the state kills for transplants...

And one question question: In your perfect world when it turns out that the police and witnesses lied to get the conviction will all those involved in the miscarriage of justice get to take their turn in a chemical induced coma awaiting their turn to be harvested?

I never said anything about a perfect world.....said ideal...

in a perfect world there would be no place for a Police force.

I don't think that those who interfere with children have any right to a life in a human society. Tell me WHY they should be allowed to mingle within the Public, at the very least they should have a tattoo (perhaps the letter P)on their forehead to warn others. If they get killed by others for what they have done sobeit.

A rather good deterrent is needed.
