Why would you have to be daft to eat it? And why the assumption that he is daft?

I've seen him on the telly.

And if a multi-national corporation has come up with a super-food that they can make in any form, I'm super-suspicious.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I quite like Quorn. Their sausages are nice, and if you're trying to cut out saturated fat then the mince is better for you than meat. However if you're a good enough cook then you can titivate it quite well. It will never taste like beef mince but it doesn't taste terrible.

We love it , low fat , zero cholesterol , and a dish made from it will depend how it's seasoned .

For sustainability , it's perfect , and could go a long way to solving food shortage as the population increases .

Only the most narrow minded would not see the benefits it offers , and Mo did do the adverts because he believes in it . And for an athlete such as him to use it is evidence enough to prove it's efficacy .

We love it too. He is vegetarian. I'm not. But we can both eat the same meal using this. Tastes fine in bolognese or chilli. Even shepherds pie if you season it well. And it's much lower fat as stated above.

I haven't read such a load of bollocks for ages.

Quorn takes on the flavour of the sauce it's cooked in. Anyone who says he throws it back up within an hour is either full of shit or a terrible cook. Or both!

I haven't tried it. I think it's interesting and it has a lot of things going for it as a foodstuff but I am suspicious of it. I, too, don't eat fungus.

Or sensitive somehow to it. It's mushroom protein based, and people can be intolerant/allergic to mushrooms.

I have tried it on a few occasions in the past as one of my ex's was a veggie. I can't say it was a totally unpleasant experience, but it's not something I would have by choice.

Quorn's 2002 debut in the US was more problematic than its European introduction. The sale of Quorn was contested by The American Mushroom Institute, rival Gardenburger, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). They filed complaints with advertising and trading-standards watchdogs in Europe and the US, claiming the labelling of Quorn as "mushroom based" was deceptive. The CSPI observed that while a mushroom is a fungus, Fusarium is not a mushroom, and stated, "Quorn's fungus is as closely related to mushrooms as humans are to jellyfish."

Ya just gotta love Wikipedia

Having read that I've been to do some more reading on mycoprotein. I was under the incorrect impression that the protein in Quorn was a protein found in mushrooms, albeit manufactured for use in Quorn.

I stand corrected and now, better informed on Quorn and mycoprotein, I am even less likely to eat it.

Allergies to it are still possible though, (although the manufacturer claims instances are very rare). It's also bound together with egg albumen, making it non-vegan, and potentially capable of making ill those sensitive to egg.

If I want to eat meat then I buy meat. Not a product that isn't

Chicken is chicken. Mince is meat : beef lamb etc

Enjoy your quorn but dont expect me to.

The chicken style chunks we eat all the time

I've eaten it occasionally for years, mainly because you can use it straight from the freezer, mince and chicken pieces. However, the dogs won't eat it ..... and usually my bearded collie loves spag bol left overs.

We use it all the time and have found how it tastes depends on the cook!

It takes on the flavour of what it is cooked in or with.

My wife is a great cook, so when we eat it, it tastes great.

First time I tried it I made a spag bol...tasted bloody awful! Next time I made a chili, spiced it up a lot and it was lovely so yes it all depends on how you cook it.

Mo is ace by the way

...I know what you mean!

I cook a lot of the mince and seasoned it's fine. "Chicken" pieces however, no matter how long I marinate it, season it, nope, still tasteless and the texture/consistency all wrong.

Full respect to him, I couldn't run the marathon, but seriously, that stuff can't be good for your long-term health and nutritional needs...?

I'm not sure about this to be honest. It's a fairly basic form of protein. Ok, so it's produced in a factory so as to make large quantities but it is a naturally occurring mould and it's created from the actual organism rather than being some kind of chemical concoction.

It's not modified like a lot of grains have been, it's not been fed growth hormones like a lot of meat has and it hasn't been treated with chemical fertilisers and killers.

In some respects it might actually be healthier than many other "natural" foods.
