I've begun my Christmas shopping today. It's not been a total success so far. I was going to get the Old Man a special present. This would involve him spending an hour shovelling coal. This sounds a bit poor, until you point out it's on the footplate of a steam loco. However, they have an age limit (70) and the old man is just over this. I did point out he's as fit as the butcher's dog and has spent most of his life soldiering, mining and chucking metal about, but they need a Doctors note for their insurance. Now my stepfather is no rocket scientist, but I think he'd notice me shanghaiing him and taking him to a doctor. I did point out to the train people that if he did have a heart attack, they could always dispose of the body in the firebox of the engine and that would cut down their paperwork and save us the cost of a cremation and whilst he thought it humorous, it was a non-starter.
So, I'm not having much luck so far.
How is everyone else's Christmas shopping going? |
