Did any of you manage to watch the 1st episode last night, and if so, what is the concensus? The first surprise for me was finding that it wasn't a prison as such and is an NHS hospital!! |

I saw it, though I was doing other stuff at the time.
It costs between £300,000 & £320,000 per year to house each person (which is about 5 times the cost of regular prisons). Why does it cost so much, & at that much cost why is it still operating? |

Because its a well known fact, that in the UK, if you are criminally insane, its your right to be pampered!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I live close to a well known "open prison" where murderers and rapists walk off all the time and are never found.
Hence my view of the prison system is very jaded.....the whole thing needs a massive overhaul and rethink in my opinion |

Omg, I have read some garbage on the forums but some of the comments re Broadmoor take the biscuit!
It's expensive due to the security of the place and employing experienced people to run it. Do you really think any Tom, Joe or Harry can work in such an environment without either further specialist training in all sorts of areas? Or would you like to just throw the patients in a pit due to their illness / disorder? |

I've just started watching it and the staff have to be so dedicated and have such specialist training and that costs money.
I don't think anyone can seriously say the patients are being pampered! These people need to be in an institution such as Broadmoor to protect themselves and everyone else. They wouldn't survive in a "normal" prison as they wouldn't get enough support for the mental health issues and they'd be a risk to other inmates. |
