When I was younger I used to get my mum to do the dumping for me

I used to make her answer the door or the phone

I was such a coward

These days I like to think I can handle stuff a little better and as I wouldn't like to be dumped by media I wouldn't like to do it to anyone else, unless they were total arsewipes who I didn't ever want to see in the flesh again

I've only ended 2 relationships in my life...

One I walked in on him in bed with my mum, and the other was my husband. Neither were done on social media, and I had more respect for both of them than that.

My last girlfriend ended our relationship via Facebook whilst she was working a nightshift. Brutal.

I did for years after it - I was 17, but I don't anymore. Haven't spoken to her for over 3 years now.

I think I would have lost all respect for my mum to do that, you are a better person than me

An ex I was having a long distance relationship with dumped me by text, he'd met someone else.

It soon became clear it was someone he'd had feelings for for a long time. It was hard seeing happy pics of them both splatted across Facebook two weeks later.

Then shortly afterwards I got together with Mr and I've never been happier

Thank you, I've had quite a few people tell me that. Its nothing to do with that the reason I no longer speak to her either.

I've a few friends think I am mad - my ex-husband married the lady he had an 18 month affair with (started when I was pregnant) and they are together now, and I see them regularly when I drop my son off with them both.

Sorry, but 'dumping' someone by text, social media or email isn't clever or funny. It a cowardly act by someone with no decency or honour not to end something face to face*.

I've been on the receiving end of this first hand. Its devastating when you go from a 3 1/2 years into a relationship, where you're talking about having a family, to nothing in the span of a single email.

I may be a 'prick in tin foil', but I'm an honourable 'prick in tinfoil'.

--

*Caveat - this does not apply in situations where doing so may result in physical harm or injury or where there is a history of abusive behavior. That's a whole separate discussion point.

When I was at school the weapon of choice was a hastily written two word note ("you're dumped" or "it's over") scribbled on a bit of A4 and delivered via the GF's best mate - or passed along a chain of friends til it landed in your hand - usually by the time you knew everyone else did already!

I did send the first ex wife a text to say I was leaving and would be in touch soon. She was in the bath at the time, had asked me to get her her mobile from the kitchen - and unluckily for her the guy she'd been shagging at work had just sent her a text thanking her for yesterday's 'best sex of his life' and asking when I was away again - clearly visible on screen.

Seemed an appropriate mechanism at the time!

I think it would take a very horrible individual to do this to anyone. How embarrassing for the receiver. Disgusting.

It was all over by the time it got to this point..

She's not particularly horrible .she was exasperated by his behaviour though...he is a but of a dick tbh

Granted we are still friends and I'm really close to her children.

With the sound of it his respect for her or lack of resulted in her saying her piece if only to have her say and find closure.

We wouldn't judge either, they were clearly not right for one another.

We didn't have internet when I was dating. My husband I told to his face and not had a relationship since. I would have to say it to someone's face or at the least on the phone

I found out my brave soldier boyfriend that (he said)was being deployed was in fact shacking up ( and knocking up) some bird in Blackpool... I only found this out when he gave his phone (the number I had) back to his ex and I text after a few days asking if he was ok... Thankfully his ex is lovely and enlightened me!

I didn't mind being dumped on social media. It was the 73 likes it received from my so called friends that I took exception to.

I found out my ex finished our relationship by logging onto Facebook and seeing on my news feed that he was now listed as single! He never said a word before that so I had no idea anything was wrong. Such a coward!
