Do you take flowers or wine to a first meet with a couple do you ask before if you are expected to stay night

Some expect gifts. Best to read their profile. Discuss whether an overnight stay is wanted. Some do and some don't.

If having a few drinks is mentioned I'd bring a bottle or two but I wouldn't take an outright gift or flowers.

Agreed, you are always best off asking the couple in question if you are unsure. Communication is key, and there is no need to be anything other than open and honest about things you are unsure of. Enjoy your meet!

Would go with the wine, if the evening doesn't pan out at least a natter and a glass of something nice is better than eating the flowers..

good to see a bit of courtesy OP..

little house on the praire

I never expect gifts but if I received one its lovely, usually alcohol or chocolate is acceptable.

As for staying the night, its definetly something to be discussed, I'd be slightly amused if someone turned up with a toothbrush and pyjamas

I think that's nice, coz they have to wash the sheets and that after you've gone. I just like if a guy helps me sort the bed out afterwards.

Don't think you have to give them anything though, it's just a nice gesture.

We always have some drinks available. And we assume people are not staying the night. But it's best to ask.
