I posted a while back that I thought I had gallstones. It has now been confirmed by ultrasound.
Now I saw my consultant today, suggesting that I have the operation in 3 months to give me time to lose some weight as it's a big risk me being operated on due to my size.
However I want it done sooner because the gallstone attacks are so painful and I got a little one to look after.
But the consultant has put the frighteners on me that I could possibly die. Due to either not waking up from the anaesthetic or bleed to death etc.
Has anyone who is rather large(I'm just over 21 stone) had this surgery or any other operation and have been fine?

I know bigger people than 21 stone that have had successful surgery. I think they have to tell everyone of the risks of surgery, it might not necessarily be just due to your weight. Unless you have other health issues that may cause problems with surgery. Maybe try and get a second opinion? |

Every surgeon, Consultant and specialist I've seen the past year and a half for different things (one was for c section for my child if it happened) and I had an abscess somewhere on my body which they thought I'd have a general which ended up being a epidural. They've all said It's a massive risk |

I had it done at 20 stone, it was straightforward and no complications, they even fixed a hernia I didn't know I had. Bonus, 2for1 deal on op's 
There's a risk with any surgery and and Drs/surgeons will always give you the potential worst case scenario to try to encourage you to adopt a healthier lifestyle prior to your op' date.
They'll explain it all in depth when you go for your pre-op assessment etc. |

I posted last time you asked this, I was 21 and 1/2 stone when I had my op, it went no different to anyone else's and I recovered well.
All doctors have to tell you the risks but they wouldn't do it if it was that dangerous.
Have they recommended a quick weight loss diet, I would think for quick weight loss you could lose 3 stone by then.
I'm sure when I signed my consent form it was 1/1000 chance of dying |

I had it done while 14 weeks pregnant after having fertility treatment to get pregnant following two miscarriages. At the time I was a very overweight (and still am!). I didn't want the op because of the risks of miscarrying but the consultant insisted I needed it. Everything was fine, it was my first general anaesthetic and I had no problems.

Nope he didn't recommend a quick loss diet, and tbh I wouldn't have a clue how to lose 3 stone so quickly. |

when I had an operation recently I was told the same things and also (due to the nature of the operation) that I could be paralysed from the waist down. They have to tell you the risks so that you can make an informed decision when you sign the consent form. |

I had my gall bladder removed by emergency keyhole surgery last year. The pain was excruciating and there was a risk of the stones going into the bile duct. I'm not large but the surgery was the best thing that happened to me. Good luck hun x |
