Is it any good? I recorded the lot, never got round to watching it and then deleted to make room on my sky+ while I was away over Christmas.
Ps. the correct answer, bearing the above info in mind is, no, it's rubbish.... |

I started watching it but I found it really, really, really slow going.
Maybe it's because I'm used to zombie films only being 1½ hours long whereas this is an entire series, but it became tedious to watch.
For example, they've blatantly ripped off the hospital scene from 28 Days Later. In that film, it takes maybe 2-3 minutes for Jim to wake up from his coma, wander aimlessly around the hospital shouting hello, drink some cans of Coke and then stagger outside. In The Walking Dead it took about 15 minutes for him to do the exact same thing.

Guys the walking dead is class..
It's based on a comic that's up to 80 issues already..
While the start is very 28 days.. Which the writer admits .. The rest is about the characters and how they survive...
If your expecting a zombie fest ... It's not gonna happen..
It's about caring about the people in it and how they survive ...
I've read all the comics and it will get nasty.. No zombie sex though ..
I do urge people to stick with it and look outbfor series two later in the year...
If they follow the comics you will get to see a black girl with swords!!!!!
Oh and yes I do read comics still...  |

The makers of the show did stick quite closely to the original comic book storyline here (yeah I'm another saddo who likes comics!) and the hospital device comes from there - the writer has said that he wasn't aware of the 28 Days Later scenes when he wrote it (the comic dates from 2003), but it's hardly an original device. They needed a way for a main character to have been somehow isolated from the outside world for a period of time so that he could wake up and find it all changed. Same thing happened in 'Day of the Triffids' and I'm sure lots of other perfectly good stories.
I agree this was a 'slow burning' series but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was never really about the zombies, it's about the people who survive. |
