Just awful.....ant understand why they didn't take heed of the warnings and stationary traffic? I suppose it will come out in the investigation. ..thoughts are with the families of the 5 young men though RIP

Is there ever a good time to jump a draw bridge in a car loaded with five people?

No...it's complete madness...was it the brakes on the car? I bet Nissan are monitoring this closely..don't suppose we'll know full story til investigation is completed. ...feel so sorry for their families

Eye witness reports say the car was on the wrong side of the road driven at high speed.

They were a very good up & coming band

Unfortunatley the way of touring for young bands is to have a tour mangager/soundguy/tech/general gopher do the driving as well to keep costs down...long hours working then driving...accidents are eventually going to take place....lots of posts today on my industry forums about bringing in new legislation to try and cut down on hours driving small splitter/transit vans with passengers as this has been cause for concern for a while.

Apparently.......

Police now say surveillance video shows the band's driver was aware of what he was doing before their car plunged from a bridge......

I read this earlier, apparently the footage shows them stop behind traffic then pull onto the hard shoulder and accelerate through the barriers? Very strange that no one else in the car attempted to stop the driver (pull car out of gear, hand brake on etc.) get the feeling this will take a long tine for the real reasons to come out. Just feel for the families.

Extracted from the news feed I read,,,

"The driver of a car that plunged off a bridge killing the band Viola Beach and their manager "acted deliberately" at the time of the crash, police have said.

Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe, Jack Dakin and manager Craig Tarry died when their hire car plunged 25 metres off the bridge 18 miles from the Swedish capital Stockholm on 13 February.

A preliminary post-mortem has shown the driver of the car - who police have not identified - did not have alcohol or drugs in his body.

Police said analysis of surveillance footage from the Sodertalje canal bridge has also shown that the car was not travelling excessively quickly and ruled out the possibility that the driver fell asleep at the wheel"

I should add the "news" source I used was possibly complete bollocks, most things they write are. Didn't look at the url just clicked on it. That would be my daily fail!

I don't suppose the absolute truth can ever be established..... I guess all we'll ever know are the basic facts.....

However I imagine the latest news will cause quite a lot of added anguish and grief though....

Indeed, thoughts with the family through what must be torture for them.
