Well it seems the fucking council has banned bastarding swearing from Salford Quays. It is now a bloody criminal offence to swear in the sodding area.

The cunts.

You'd think they'd worry more about their gun crime and gangs than people swearing!

Isn't that already covered by public order act? Is it a problem there?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I don't like swearing in public areas. It really annoys me when it's older people (I mean my age) complaining about young people all the while casually swearing around small children.

I wouldn't go as far as banning it though. It just adds another layer of minor public order offences that can't be enforced.

That's shocking.

Maybe it's simply an underhanded way of discouraging those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds from frequenting their blissful ,utopian, gentrified bubble and "lowering the tone"... Ugh.

Salford quays like vara said is supposed to be the posh bit but it's pretty crap in reality. it is however full of dicks with more money than sense so no dawt that's what it's all about. Thankfully it's not a place I go much.

everything is becoming accountable with a fine ,I was in Wimbledon last week a guy was walking to station and I assume pulling his ticket out of his pocket two environment enforcement officers saw him drop a tiny piece of paper which he hadn't even noticed he had dropped and swooped on him ,he got a ticket

I think its fair enough, its not difficult to have a conversation without swearing good approach and may prevent some kids picking up on foul language

How would this measure up against 'Freedom of speech' and does this potentially turn this into the so called post-code lottery that will make Toutette Syndorme sufferers in the area criminals?

This is rediculous. I'm from Salford and regularly go to the quays. I'm also a bit of a swearer. Not that I go round swearing at the top of my voice... I won't be changing g how I act around there... how do they plan on enforcing the ban?

Why not make it Country wide - look at the fucking revenue they could draw in to the Treasury, and we could spend it on Schools or Hospitals? (There's my contribution already)

guess you have to try and make many realise that swearing does not make them look big, just shows a pure lack of education and morals

"guess you have to try and make many realise that swearing does not make them look big, just shows a pure lack of education and morals"

I don't agree with this at all. Some of the most educated people I know swear, a lot. I swear too and I am educated. As for morals, being on a swingers site may not be seen as morally correct either.

They are just words ( or sentence enhancers imo )

Oi! I'm well fucking educated and I like a bloody good swear

How will they enforce it when I go swimming in the quays over summer? Can't hear me swearing about the cold through a gobfull of dirty salford water!

Gee ...

swearing

....it's words...

they hold no offence or power unless you give them that....

language is creative, it's expressive and swearing is just part of that tapestry .....

why be offended...

because you were told it was offensive by a parental figure years ago....

actually ask yourself WHY does the word offend me, who told me it was offensive,

what was their value system...

have you taken on board everyone of their values

did they say being on a swinging site was fantastic but saying the word FUCK was BAD.....

IF CONTROLS ARE ENFORCED ON OUR LANGUAGE - what other controls come next ?????

X

of course, they'll have to have enforcement officers trained in all the languages likely to be spoken, Urdu, Gujaraati, Punjabi, Mandarin etc etc, otherwise, they'll be victimising the English speaking minority.
