If you want to know what’s in store for us in the next wave of Tory ‘reforms’, it’s always handy to take a close look at the Conservative Party’s main activist magazine Conservative Home.
Two articles written recently by Conservative Home’s influential assistant editor Henry Hill, have proposed getting rid of retirement:
“The entire concept of ‘a retirement’ is, after all, an artefact of the welfare system.”
scrapping pensions:
“As medical advances help us stay active longer, the expectation in the future must surely be that whilst you can work, you work – unless you can save enough to pay for a period of idleness yourself.”
and replacing GPs and other doctors with untrained volunteers:
“85 per cent of a typical doctor’s work can be done perfectly well by a ‘physician’s assistant’ with a fraction of the training or wages. Volunteers would receive pay, training, and legal rights to take time out of their ‘civilian’ life to work for so many weeks of the year in the NHS.”

Retirement should be at 60 if you want it,but younger people should get out and work so the older people can have higher pensions.
Before you all start to shout at me,there is work it is that people do not want to do the jobs around or get the qualifications,These are the people ruining the rights of older and truelly disabled people etc.It is not the governments fault |

I'm happily saving up for my retirement at 55 and the Tory party are not going to be able to stop me. I see no other way than saving and investing heavily now to head off the pittance they plan on giving to people.
And as for being put to use no thanks I plan on chilling and growing old disgracefully while warming my bones in sunnier climes. |

If it challenges the notion of life that you waste most of it working and then eventually retire, at which point your health declines because you have no purpose in life..
If it stops employers looking at people of a certain age as pointless because they're approaching retirement..
I see those as good arguments for considering the idea. |

People aren't gonna need a parliament soon.
We've got everything we need to make our own collectives. We can see how the system is failing us, and has been for a long time, since it was started really - probably because it was started so that some people don't have to make much effort to hold onto their power and take everyone elses money.
We will educate each other for our own protection and care.
They slag off people who do anything to protect themselves from this crumbling, shitty system that takes away from you, your life, your money, your self worth. People aren't putting up with that any more and now they have a voice and the ability to spread that voice.
They've never had and real control. Violence and force isn't control, and what little they did have is disappearing. |

I don't know if people are getting more stupid or not. I know they focus on the wrong things, why they do that i'm not sure but i do think it's to escape their shit lives (or more to escape lives they think are shit).
Newer generations are more open minded, this helps a lot.
We need some really good forms of entertainment to get people to focus on the right things. Maybe turn them into guides on how to change life for the better and how to have more control over your own life, instead of being so passive. |

So what happens is,you put your money into a bank or investment company,where they use it to gamble on stocks and shares or invest it in buying bad debts and they lose all your pension money. The bottom will eventually fall out of the property market when the Government stop paying landlords housing benefit or whatever it's called now. You'll retire when they lay you in your coffin. |

Because...if you work for 30 years (having already lived for 20 without making any contribution so being supported by others). And for that 30 years you put aside 10% of your salary (the average is actually significantly less btw) you then expect to sit on your ass for the next 32 years (taking you to 82...the current life expectancy) being paid for! Am I the only one to see this and what is already being done as an attack on all of us? I doubt that there are any billionaires here, maybe a few of their lackeys who use their intelligence to transfer our collective wealth into the hands of a very few for their 30 pieces of silver. But from where I am looking at this I see a trend to return all capital wealth, land and power to a privileged elite while returning the vast majority of us to serfdom. Like it or not serfdom and slavery are the same thing, and from the tone of many if not most of the posts here the targets of this are all in favour.
Maybe most of the sheeple think they are judas goats.

After a certain age, those who want to work will work. Those who rather relax spend time with grandkids or see the world should be entitled to do so. When I'm 60+ I'd much rather spend my last 20yrs enjoying free life after serving the economy for many decades. I'd not want to be forced to work till I'm dead.
If Tories want the latter, pensions should be scrapped entirely. |

Scenario ...... Woman has been teaching a class of 30 kids since she was 25.
She is now 75/80. Do YOU want your child in her class ?
So get another job you say....
Scenario 2...... She leaves teaching at 70 and looks for another job. You'd take her on........ wouldn't you ? If there is a job for pissing your pants and saying 'What did you say ? all day long.
So are we supposed to work for 40 years and save every penny so that we can eat a meal a day up until death ? |

So what, your work till you're knackered and you die?
Yeah, so all the old people stay in work which means the jobs aren't available for the next generation, so the young stay unemployed. Meanwhile the NHS gets hammered as it tried to keep the older generation for to work.
Well my main reasoning is more related to the likelihood of sustained good health while in work. Obviously the work has to be appropriate to your capabilities.
But yes, if you can work.. why shouldn't you?
How long is enough? Till your too knackered to have any sort of life? Till you drop dead at the desk?

scrapping pensions:

and replacing GPs and other doctors with untrained volunteers:
“85 per cent of a typical doctor’s work can be done perfectly well by a ‘physician’s assistant’ with a fraction of the training or wages. Volunteers would receive pay, training, and legal rights to take time out of their ‘civilian’ life to work for so many weeks of the year in the NHS.”

There is nothing wrong with thinking outside the box because that is where all the best ideas get formulated. Many people die shortly after retirement because they lose their purpose in life. Many admin jobs that Doctors undertake can be done by less qualified people. These are facts and a forward thinking government (of any disposition) should always be thinking outside the box as a means of improving the livelihood of the nation. |

Again... It is a think tank and not a policy. The fact that you have created this "policy" in your imagination simply illustrates your own desire to put your own political spin on every post that you can. It is a think tank, it is not a policy.
Labour, LibDems, Greens and UKIP also have think tanks where they too think outside the box as a way of dealing with issues in society. It is perfectly normal and an absolute non issue. |
