I believe the " Sunday/ bank holiday" opening rules state that they must close on a certain number of bank holidays or Sundays.

Up to them to choose which ones

I took my nephew to the local soft play area today, which is on a busy shopping estate. Was eerily quiet today. Reminded me of my childhood when everything was closed on Sundays.

Used to work in large supermarket - Easter Sun is one of the specified days in the Sunday Trading legislation when they must close. Something to do with the sales floor area, which is why the Tesco express & the smaller Co-ops are open

Shame really.

I listened to an interview with the guy who owns the chain of "The Entertainer" toy shops and he explained that he won't open on Sunday's as his staff spending quality time with their loved ones is more important to him than an extra days takings.

The interviewer couldn't get her head around it and just kept banging on that he was missing out on money he could have. The guy was just "yep, more important things in life than money though"

That's why I shop there instead of Toys R Us on the rare occasion I need to.

Not in Scotland they're not. Only closed Christmas Day, reduced hours for Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and NYE/Day

It's been lovely out and about today with most shops here closed. Quiet everywhere - wish it was like it more often.

While I really do applaud his stance, extended trading hours benefit us shift workers.
