Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I know she's unlikely to see this but it has always been a Fab tradition (in the time I have been on the forum at least).
Many happy returns to Queen Elizabeth on her 90th birthday. Still going strong.
p.s. also Eurotongue (even though he's not here).

"*shakes head, rolls eyes and spits republican feathers*
Pah..
bet you'll have a bit of cake though.. "
Bloody won't - last time we had to do somthing for school like this I sent my 6 year old daughter to school with a bunch of cupcakes iced with the anarchists symbol.
That's how childish I am on the subject of being a subject rather than a citizen.
Anyway. I'll be quiet. |

Surely she's 180 if she has 2 birthdays
The tradition started in 1748 with George II, who had the misfortune of being born in chilly November. Rather than have his subjects risk catching a cold, he combined his birthday celebration with the annual spring parade known as Trooping the Colour. The parade itself had been part of British culture for almost a century by that time and originated as part of the Restoration of Charles II in 1660.
At first it was a strictly military event at which regiments displayed their flags—or "colours"—so that soldiers could familiarise themselves. But George was known as a formidable general after having led troops at the Battle of Dettingen in 1743, so the military celebration seemed a fitting occasion onto which to graft his warm-weather birthday. Edward VII, who also had a November birthday, was the first to standardise the June Trooping of the Colour and launched a tradition of a monarchical review of the troops that drew crowds of on-lookers.

I think I've still got my necker and woggle somewhere "
You mean DYB DYB DYB. It's a Cub Scout acronym for Do Your Best.
Well done if you still have your necker and woggle. (A secret left-handed handshake for a fellow Scout) |

The programme showing their family films and behind the scenes footage with different members of the family watching them is interesting. The Princess Royal indicating she wasn't treated quite as generously as the Prince of Wales.
