on the road to nowhere in particular |
Amy Whitehouse once told me that Beverly Knight was one of the best singers around and Amy had to follow her on stage one night thinking to herself "how do I follow that"
After meeting Beverley a couple of times I can quite honestly say that she is also one of the nicest, loveliest and most genuinely nice people I have ever met.
A thoroughly underrated performer. |

Etta James- a voice like a velvet covered shards of glass
Andrea Bocelli- I stood about 6ft from him doing his warm up back stage, I could actually feel the sound waves hitting me- he doesn't need a microphone |

Sia has a great voice.
Lana del Rey has a beautiful languid tone to her voice.
Rufus Wainwright has exquisite vocal phrasing.
Marc Almond, especially when live, is a master of storytelling through song. |

I could go on. I may be a shameless name dropper but I am full of virtue.
Can I add KT Tunstall to the list please? |

"Just heard Beverley Knight and thought what a great singer she is,a fine pair of lungs.
Wonder who other fabsters rate?"
I've always thought that Skin from Skunk Anansie has one of the most incredible voices, a really pure tone and an unbelievable dynamic range.

On the other hand, I love Tori Amos' character and phrasing too.

The woman makes me cringe, but Celine Dion has a clarity to her voice few can match.
Will Young (don't laugh) has a great live voice, although I find him a bit 'pompous'
Eva Cassidy singing 'Time after Time' makes the hairs on my arms stand up
Josh Groban singing 'February Song' has a similar effect on me
Old school, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald |

The best female voice of all time for me is Jennifer Holliday...she was in the original version of Dreamgirls on Broadway. Listen to her version of 'And I am telling you'...gives me goosebumps every time....such raw passion in her voice x |

The only band I ever saw that were better live than on record.
Queen, being that Freddie could sing anything from rock, ballad, opera, metal, pop
I'd probably have to go put my vote on him |

If I had to choose one , it has to be Freddie mercury, husky rock, high falsetto, soft ballads, heavy metal, opera, he could sing anything.
Genius song writer too, |

Adam Lambert. I think he has an incredible voice, charismatic stage presence and an engaging performer.
If you've not seen or heard him before have a butcher's at this.... 'For Your Entertainiment' https://youtu.be/IsPFDzAGb4A

Emeli Sande is superb live. Had the good fortune to see her at the Ritz in Manchester just before she hit the big time. Support act wasn't too shabby, a young guy by the name Daley, with a superb soulful voice.
Maxwell also another great live artist.
A very under rated singer is Zoe Johnstone who sang vocals on some Faithless tracks.
Oh, and I am partial to a bit of Robyn too. |
