Any fanaticisms to share?? Here's mine today....
1 My Fitbit isn't syncing properly, they agreed it's faulty and should be replaced and Amazon are sending one out special delivery BEFORE I have to send this one back - how cool is that!
2 Was just logging all my regular food in and entering a coffee - 6 calories with semi-skimmed.......and just noticed those instant cappuccinos.....231 calories each!!! Oh my word, don't go there peeps!
3 Just logged my sausage casserole recipe - it seems if I eat it I'll have to go dancing after - quelle domage |

Question oh fitbit whizzkid that you are...
... do fitbits work in polar opposites? In that if I wanted to GAIN weight, would it calculate what I needed to consume (calorifically) in order to do that..
(conversely would it yell at me occasionally "SLOW DOWN!" or such like?
Serious question asked in a me manner |

Cor!! Might get me one... can you set it for your ideal weight? Or what you hope to achieve, or does it use a BMI calculation to work out whats "best for you"

"Mine isn't synching either. Had it since xmas and tried everything! Was it the Charge HR?"
No a Flex - just contact them online and they'll run through the troubleshooting with you and if it doesn't work they'll replace it.
It's finally synced to the phone after a reboot but won't sync to the computer whatever we do. But, i discovered if it syncs to the phone and information sharing is left allowed then all the data is on the cloud anyway, and I can access it from my computer. |

Nope, it'll set you whatever you want, weight or % bodyfat or whatever. According to their weight loss thingy 500 cals dailey deficit will lose 1lb a week, 750 1.5lb and 1000 2lb. I'm going for 1000 a day 'cos I have no patience! |

You could cut out the middleman - if you excercise regularly and at a similar intensity, just log your food, increase your intake by 100 calories a day for a week. If no gain, add another 100 the next week and so on until you are gaining at a pace you are comfortable with.
Fitbits are quite useful if your excercise doesn't follow a regular pattern, though.
Also, they tend to slighty overstimate the burn from cardio and underestimate it for lifting. |

Its a good plan, however 100 calories a day doesn't cut it. I doubled calorie intake (6000 per day) for 6 months and only gained half a stone!
Eating all those extra calories (nuts, carbs, proteins, eggs...(oh the eggs!!) dried fruit etc... damn near killed me.... I am currently on the GOMAD (note thats NOT an N!!) diet and experiencing some changes, but it takes time |

I love the fact that it works out what 'incidental' exercise I do eg doing the horses and going dancing - one day it was 30,000 odd steps and the equivalent of a half marathon lol!! |

Hardgainer problems...
Are you looking to bulk as in add muscle too? Are you lifting?
There comes a point when getting all your calories from 'clean' sources is nigh on impossible for some. If you are getting a nutritionally balanced diet, there is no reason when you can't fill the gaps with very calorie dense foods of the "junk" variety and have fun doing it! |

Or peanuts - they are 40 million calories a handful it seems....
Peanuts followed by sausage casserole and a packet cappucino - sorted, fat as a pig in weeks! |

"I use my fit bit in conjunction with myfitnesspal which you can easily log food and it all syncs with your fit bit app (and vice versa) which is great for losing or gaining weight. I have the charge but have been ummmmmmming and ahhhhhhhhing about upgrading to charge HR or Garmin vivosmart (waterproof) Doing my head in. Garmin has the edge but the fit bit app is the best
I have the flex synced to myfitnesspal and mapmywalk. One thing I have learnt to watch is it automatically recalculating the calories I have left in a day according to my fitbit, I work in net not gross calories expended so I don't want to mistakenly eat them back."
I don't understand the difference or know which I work in??
Now it has synced it seems I don't have to go dancing to have the casserole, yay, but I might have a swim anyway! |

A lot of fitness trackers like mapmywalk calculate calories burned by activity based on time expended. The way I see it, I would have expended some of those calories anyway by simply thinking, breathing, etc. A couple of miles walking in 40 or so minutes apparently uses up 200+ calories. When I recalculate that based on my weight and basic metabolic rate (there's a really good net versus gross calorie calculator online) it is actually more around the 170 mark additional calories I have used. Since I'm aiming for a calorie deficit I like to know that. |

Gosh, OK. Must be swings and roundabouts though - it doesn't know when I take a step if I'm carrying a 25kg sack of horse feed or not so the intensity may not be correct....but I see your point, if it does not work for me I may have to fine tune. |

I also sync to mapmyfitness too as I cycle on the weekends and want every thing to count. I need to find a way of getting my fit bit around my ankle as when I go dancing, it doesn't quite pick up my steps, as with other forms of movement that doesn't include moving your arm (walking around shop with trolley, mowing lawn) It's all a learning curve. I have to take fit bit off when I am cycling as it counts it as steps
I know it is not an exact science, but it is a good heads up. |

That's strange, cos if I wear it riding I get credited with all the horse's steps lol! Three days in on only about 1000 calories a day and I have gained a pound lol! |
