If a plants leafs start to wilt,, can it be saved or is it past the point of no return.
Pillock here poured hot water onto a sunflower instead of cold.. (i never filled the watering can).. i stopped soon as i realised there was steam coming off .. then went and got cold water.

Is it a seedling ? prob on its last legs, boiling water on young roots not good. leave it see what happens. You may have discovered something and end up with a world record beater for height. |

No.. went to a garden centre and got a 15 inch one ..... so already had an established flower head.. |

The boiling water may have sterilised the soil or killed the roots. You could try replanting it in fresh soil and giving the roots a dip in some rooting compound. try not to swallow any rooting compound it will make you rampant ! If any leaves are dying pinch them off to. |

Thanks paula.. it wasnt boiling water, just very warm water
still we have a few glum days so might just see how it goes for a week.. if nothing changes start again |

different situation.. if a plant is dying from dehydration can you 'bring it back' with giving it water on a regular basis? |

Leaves wilting are usually a protective response to stress - which could include water uptake and transpiration issues.
If the roots were cooked by the heat and thus unable to uptake water then it would probably be fatal. If just some tissue was damaged then it could recover after shock.
I'd limit further heavy demands upon it. Some shelter and moderate conditions - avoiding extremes of heat, light, temperature etc for a couple of days.
Wiltimg in and of itself is normal plant 'behaviour' when it can't cope with something |
