Depends how you interpret " Cover Version"

If you mean just copying the original, then you are right ;

If you mean reinterpreting the original, then many are utterly brilliant and are light years above the originals .

Or sometimes they are just as good, but vastly different transformations.

Plus White Stripes Version of " Just don't know what do do with Myself":

Equal to , and is very different to Dusty's version ( which is classic). Dusty's version is itself a cover, as it was originally recorded by a guy called Tommy Hunt, and his version was dire.

Well my personal opinion is that cover versions are album fillers for bands with little ideas or not enough material and by doing a cover is only highlighting that the original artist created a piece of music that they can only imitate
