Something quite light for next to the pool, recently taken and enjoyed the rebus books and the Peter Kay/Kevin bridges autobiographies.

One of the Best books I have ever read was by George Robert Elford and the title is Devil's Guard

This is the true story of the French Foreign Legions Nazi battalion

How they marched from the battlefields of world war II and tells the story of Hans Josef Wagemuller, how he joined the Legion and fought on the killing fields of Vietnam

I have read this book many times over the past 3 decades

Possibly a bit deep, but read and enjoyed recently a book about the British and Irish volunteers of the Spanish civil war

I'm reading Spectacles by Sue Perkins. It's very funny, I was crying with laughter, yesterday.

Try some Terry Pratchett for something different, or Micheal Connely for a decent crime novel. But be warned! You will lose soooo much time once you are engrossed in these books!!

If you enjoyed Rebus I can recommend The Inspector Banks books by Peter Robinson, much better than the TV series that was made of them.

I'm quite a fan of Scott Mariani. Perfectly trashy but engaging and reasonably well written thrillers that romp along.

Ideal holiday reading.

One of the books I read on holiday last year was Ben Elton's Time and Time Again which I really enjoyed. As the title suggests it's a time travel story but so much more than that ... an historical thriller that makes you think. Very cleverly written and a real page turner.

The Richard Coles biography Fathomless Riches is an amazing read. Honest, funny, and told with great candour. It's ace. And I hated The Communards.

High Rise by JG Ballard is pretty good. Quite bloody but fairly straightforward. Good commentary on society too.

Or one of CLive James' memoirs: light and very funny.

Or maybe something by Roddy Doyle. You'll whip right through him. Not in that sense..!

The long walk by Slavomir Rawicz is a good read....a true story about the epic escape of a Polish cavalry officer sentenced to 25 years hard labour in the Siberian Gulags.

Though I rate Papillon as an even more engrossing tale of escape, there is some debate regarding how true some of his tales are....Still a firm favourite of mine nevertheless.

Mr Nice is an entertaining read as well

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is incredible.

For any fantasy fans The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is stunning.

I read about 4 books a month. Recent ones of note are...

The Visitor by Lee Child.

Archangel by Robert Harris (probably the best book I've ever read)

And

Is harry on the boat by Colin Butts.

If anyone was a rep or went on an 18 30s holiday in the 90s they'll love the last book.

Just worked my way through the first five Jo Nesbo Detective Harry Hole novels.

Absolute page turners, just ordered the next three.
