Can it be done, or is a whole new mind set required, already talk of Hoddle taking a stand in roll for upcoming games, been there and that was great wasn't it . |

I think a manager with a winning mentality is needed. Hogdson was too nice for his own good and a ruthless manager is needed to overcome all the shortcoming s that have happened. England has got a very good crop of young players too which can be honed to make a good Euro 2020 team. |

"who are these players you speak of? "
Marcus Rashford, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling(needs to gain confidence), Tom Heaton, and a couple of more who are still at the club level |

Arguably England hasn't played anywhere near the level Hoddle got them to in France 98 since. He showed he was capable of making tough decisions (leaving out Gazza for example) and brought through youth. Absent the religious nonsense he was very good. |

I think we need to take a lesson from Germany...
A few years ago they had an ageing squad...so they promoted their talented u21s and gave them 1-2 tournements to gel....
The current german set up is basically that squad with a few new talents thrown in...
unlike the England way keep in the 'untouchables' and any youngster that does not have an instant impact is thrown out |

start by taking a good long hard look at the premiership and our selves as supporters.
we demand instant results . We want the best players now , so that means buying from around the world .
the money involved in the game now leaves little room for youth development and the most important things
time and patience |

Maybe there is nothing to "fix?"
Think a reality check is more in order.
If you take out the world cup, what have England ever won? Answer "nothing"
When they won the world cup, it's what is known as a "flash in the pan"
Meaning "something that happened only once or for a short time and was not repeated"
Sadly, their success was just a flash in the pan.
England qualifying for any major tournament should in itself be classed as "success" and anything after that is a bonus.

Ryan Giggs pointed out that 8 of the current Wales team came through the under 21's together, maybe England need a plan that has this ethic at its core and we may get to see an actual England TEAM |

To true there, look at Radford way to young, if they came up together playing as a team over a period of time and not just put together every big tournament think the English team would fair up alot better |

Now we are out of the EU the FA could push for a cap on foreign players,3 per team again?

Just put a team (70%) players with balls and bite à la Robson, Butcher, Shearer etc and (30%)flair players à la Lineker, Gascoigne, Moore etc.
Players who need no coaching and don't give a monkeys about authority |

Do what works for the players and mentality of kids being brought through the system/society here. Remember when France used to be the model to follow, so they built St Georges which is meant to be an amazing facility but then France dipped and then Spain seemed to be the model to follow, so more small sided games, but now they've dipped and Germany seems to be the way to go
It's cyclical in a sense but more than that, what got annoying with the Engkish team/manager in particular was the arrogance (that to me is mentality) without being able to back it up.
Welsh players have come through the same systems but seem more collective, there's less expectation but have the fundamentals right
Picking the right manager would be a start, and just getting them to play in a system. Most of them are relatively young, supporters and media should buy into some sort of plan, which may take time and some poor results initially.
As Shag would say, patience is the key |

They need tournament time. From the second they make it into the first team the manager blocks them from playing 'meaningless' International football, ie, anything that isn't for England in a meaningfull points at stake match so they're never prepared when they get there. We never have our strongest under 21 team in the major events, vital stepping stones for Euros and World cups, look at Spain recently, Germany or when France won their world cup....So frustrting and quite ridiculous when you think about it. |

Aye. It was half at least to do with the system. We had no real structure, after promising much in the first couple of games. Roy losing the plot with his subs didn't help.Ie just flinging on all the attackers at once showed he didn't really have any idea, or was panicking, which then would have got transmitted to the sheep(sorry: players). If you do that once then fair enough, but every game...?
The last game was awful because we had abondoned the patient, tiki takaesque approach which was looking pretty okay at the beginning of the tournamount. We dhould have continued in that vein.
Go knows why he didnt take Townsend. God knows why he continued to pick Kane and Alli(who both looked knackered/had lost their first touch).
God knows why he didn't play Stones: someone who can bring it out and play it from the back with his skill and composure would have changed us in to a completely different team.
Makes mistakes, I know, but so would the others. In which case, why not play him.
Jeez. Well that's that offloaded..
Hoddle for manager, by the way. |

Have we ever seen this 70%-30% blend?? All of them who despise coaching and authority?? Not yet. And we won't either. Suits at FA. Politics at FA. Millions at FA. To reply to your question, we can't. It's not allowed x |

I do a lot of football coaching and I'm a great believer in
"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard"
A lot of our failure I believe is down to this, they think they are better footballers than teams like Iceland(on paper they might be but games aren't played on paper)
Sometimes you have to fight hard and match teams work rate, organisation and competitiveness and only then can being a better player start to shine through |

We have won 6 knock out games in major tournaments since 1966. Tells you all you need to know about how good we actually are. Wales are better than us but everyone is surprised they are in the Semis. It's about expectation - don't expect much and England will deliver every time. |

"dont win you dont get paid works in every business i own "
Pretty sure they all or the majority donate the fee they get playing for England to a charity so that's not going to work and when they are multiple millionaires through club football a no win for England no fee will take it from the charity and not harm the players |

I've not expected much from England for years now so that doesn't work either |

It's not just the manager.
Or the set up.
Or the players.
It's having the right tactics.
Iceland game for example. As soon as they scored I said watch Iceland put 11 men behind the ball and watch England try to punt balls from their own penalty area into Iceland third of the pitch.
Voila, long balls into a packed area, 2 strikers against 10 defenders.
The more desperate England got the worse the tactics. It's been the same for as long as I remember.
I thought they started the tournament quite well, other than scoring the killer goals in the first two games, their actual football was a vast improvement.

"Wales are not better than us
yes we are ..... proven
Didn't England beat Wales?
you might need rhinoplasty for that thing on your face being so far out of joint dude "
Nah what wales do in this tournament means the same to me as how well Germany or Italy do.Just enjoy it without feeling the need to compare wales to England.Or any other team.Good luck in the semi finals. |

England hasn't won much since 1966, sadly it won't get much anytime soon.
I remember listening to ex Players saying it used to be an honour to play for England, I don't think that honour is there anymore. |

"As the new coach of the English team FA should choose Jürgen Klinsmann.
No more foreign coaches please
Give it to mike basset ??"
Why not? What difference from where is a coach? It doesn't matter where the trainer is from, all that matters is that the team is well trained and they win the matches. I support England for many years, as well as Liverpool. I'm sorry to say but I do not see any English coach for this job. This is my opinion, this team has great potential but needs a courageous coach. Maybe Eddie Howe but he is too young, he does not have much experience. |

Completely agree. We were nearly there(prising defences open technically,ie, on the floor). Then the organisation went out the window in the last match or so. |
