Right then!! For the last few years my eldest and I have had our own mince pie judging thing going on. This year she has other things to to so I,m opening it up...best mince pie available nationwide(no local bakers). Can be deep filled or traditional, puff pastry or short, in fact any widely available mince pie type treat can be entered. Judging panel is me (Mr), and two others, to be appointed!! Entry's by mid December, sub categories are best pastry and best filling...your nominations please

I go for quantity over quality... so Lidl box of 24 is my nomination for best value ......

Mine - sweet short crust pastry with grated orange and orange juice, home made mincemeat with whisky. With orange and whisky butter icing between mincemeat and pastry top

Aldi are doing some beautiful Salted Caramel ones and also Chocolate Orange ones which are also really good! Well worth a visit.

Me and friend also judge mince pies and we hve found the best by far is the Aldi speciality brandy mince pie.... I've eaten a lot of pies and hands down these are amazing . Xx

I have a great recipe. You make the pastry with lots of butter and orange juice but no sugar. The mincemeat goes in, topped with a dollop of thick cream, laced with sugar and orange peel/juice.

Amazing.
