Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I need a very quick straw poll on this.

Which Agnus Dei do you like?

Tallis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skakTsaHSD4

Barber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFJ4hN7vxWo

Jenkins: ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgvqkL4qlow

I see him in Waitrose sometimes. He looks better on the telly.

Now choose!

I adore Tallis but I feel Barber is the right one (and so moving) for this occasion. Sending you love.

More people will know the Barber too.

She heard me sing the Jenkins once and the Tallis feels more High Church. I'm conflicted.

Then the question is what do *you* want to get out of this? If the Jenkins holds a personal memory and attachment -- then that's the way to go. You don't need to appeal to the masses, so to speak.

I am no judge of this type of music. But Jenkins seems to choose itself

I like the pun.

I probably want to please the masses. I'll listen to each of them again.

It's the most modern, and possibly the cleanest.

It would depend upon the circumstances, Barber's is certainly more funereal, although now common. I think Tallis is slightly more uplifting and would fit in better with a Christmas mass setting.

My personal preference is Faurè though not on your list!

I'm the same, also with Albinoni "The Doors" and "Gallipoli" the later of which as a film affects me in other ways too!

I love the Faurè too but then I would want the Cantique de Jean Racine too.

That's a good point!

I love Tallis best, Barber is the most well known but Jenkins has a connection for you. My vote is now Jenkins for that reason. Good luck, thinking of you lots.

My Mum and Step Dad, could be so proud of bringing me up to be discussing choral Mass settings. Not sure they would be so proud if they knew the forum I was discussing it in though!

The version from Faures Requiem is the best written version......done properly in 8 part full harmony.

I can blame them, I was an altar boy from a young age, eventually rising from being a boat boy to being a thurifer. And if there's one thing a good thurifer does well, it's swing!!

Barbers Angus Dei is my preference, such a moving piece of music.

I confess to not hearing the others before now, Tallis sounds more choral to me.

That's a big chain for a young man to swing.

At the moment, my instinct is to outsource the decision. This is the last of the musical choice decisions, everything else is programmed in. This one is an additional last minute decision.

I love the Rutter but I don't have it on CD - and I need a CD. The same with the Puccini.

The Agnus Dei was the first Rutter I heard and it opened up such a wonderful world.

Very comforting words appropriate for a funeral and uplifting rather than sad.
