It's similar to Ramadan in that Christians fast, pray, reflect and practice generosity to those less fortunate for 40 days. It's symbolic of the 40 days and nights that Jesus was tempted in the wilderness.

Yep, my very catholic grandma told me this years ago. She gave up cake every year but still ate it every Sunday |
