I don't look like a stereotypical metalhead.I have gangsta rap inspired tattoos, mainly listen to old school hip hop.

But put me behind a set of drums with a double bass and something takes over

Metal will always be my true love in music

To be fair I have never had someone hold me back at a festival. I usually go in a big group but they've all grown up and are having children and things

I'm getting to the point now where I can't "slum it" anymore. Going up to Download for Aerosmith on Sunday and booked a hotel room for after.

Go to loads of gigs and festivals on my own and nearly always find a few people to chat to. Joked once that after three years of festivals with my ex, going back to doing them on my own was absolute heaven, lol.

I'd have missed so many great bands if I hadn't been willing to go by myself. Been doing it since your age, probably younger.

Hmm sleep in a muddy field or sleep in luxury with a shower?

I'm getting to the point now where I can't "slum it" anymore. Going up to Download for Aerosmith on Sunday and booked a hotel room for after.

Go to loads of gigs and festivals on my own and nearly always find a few people to chat to. Joked once that after three years of festivals with my ex, going back to doing them on my own was absolute heaven, lol.

Really? I'm so nervous to do these kinds of things alone

I'd have missed so many great bands if I hadn't been willing to go by myself. Been doing it since your age, probably younger.

Luckily I've been attending gigs and festivals since I was born so I've had the pleasure of seeing a lot of artists"

Lucky you, my Dad never took me to anything like that. In fact, I took HIM to his first Rolling Stones concert. Been a fan for 30 odd years but never seen them live.

"Has anyone here ever gone to a festival alone?

If so, what was it like?

I no longer have anyone to go to festivals with but I want to go to Bloodstock or Download next year

Did download alone a few years ago, had a blast. Didn't have anyone to hold me back from drinking or making friends, or saying 'dont see them, come see these' etc.

To be fair I have never had someone hold me back at a festival. I usually go in a big group but they've all grown up and are having children and things

Ahh, well I know there's 'Camp Loner' at DL, but I just camped in normal and made friends the old fashioned way haha.

My worst thing is the tent...I can't put up a tent for shit. Maybe I will go RIP camping

Alright for some eh! get one of those cheap pop up ones and leave it! They donate all the left ones to charity afterwards if they're in good knick

And carry it all myself? I usually only have two bags to hold and one of them weighs more than I do!

I may just see if Bullet are there for the weekend, if they are then I should be able to go VIP for the weekend

Find a lovely young man to carry it for you, just flutter your eyelashes

Yeah, poor old sod, lol.

My ex asked if I could get disabled viewing tickets, I'm like "no you need to be registered disabled to get those, you can't just say "I'm a bit old and can't stand up for very long". It's The Rolling Stones, that applies to 75% of the audience".

RIP camping at DL is good, pricey but good.

If you're on your own you'd be better going for one of the small pod things, as they are tiny and how they set them out, they are normally easy to get chatting to others

But every time I've done it it's been great just driving on and setting your tent up next to your car, means you can pack way more clothes lol

That alone has been worth the extra money in some of the wet and muddy years we've had

Alice in chains, nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden yada yada. I dont tend to stick to the one genre if im honest. My faves are the chilis but thats more concentrated on their older funk stuff as opposed to the new. I have a serious love for guys w long hair so that probably plays in w the music scene too haha Eddie Vedder as a young lad is heaven to me!!!

Uh oh.

We have this argument almost every week when they have a band on (thankfully once again, they stopped for a while & I need beer & rock 'n' roll on a Friday night!) Older mate of mine who saw all the cool bands in the 70's reckons it all started with the blues - if there were no blues there'd be no rock 'n' roll and therefore no metal/thrash/industrial/death/wasking machine whatever pigeon hole you choose to place it...

Of course I counter with the old 'what about Wagner then?' Argument & he sees his arse.....

The same can be said about all genres of music. It all comes from classical music, as that is all they had in the ancient worlds. Everything is derived from something, and some genres incorporate others in order to express different emotion in the music.

I thought everyone knew that and had gotten over it a long time ago?

"Of course!

Is there any other kind of music?

Classical? Opeth come under both...

I'd say quite a bit of classical is very rock 'n' roll.....

Said he last friday wearing a ratm shirt singing Delibes flower duet....(I was in the car but you probably still heard me!)

What about Cradle of Filth? They incorporate classical music and they are definitely not rock 'n' roll haha

I thought everyone knew that and had gotten over it a long time ago?"

Oh lord no, there's always someone who'll spout off about some aspect of music

"Yeah, Eminem changed the game you know....."

Cue intense spitting out of ale, expletives whilst other folks try to explain why the earth is flat....

I reckon it comes from something as ancient as banging sticks together.... once you got rythmn man....

Others will argue the blues & one of my learned friends denies it's got anything to do with either....

Every artist changes the game. That's what makes them different to the other artists within their genre. That's common sense

Hmmmm, not sure anout every artist. I have difficulty telling the difference between a lot of these pop acts as they all seem to want to sound the same... just like a lot of rap and 'new (or is it 'nu'?) Hip hop. They just spund to me like they're trying too hard. I either like a tune or I don't.

I say just do your thang, it doesn't worry me. Though it still amuses me when I used to hear kids accusing Aerosmith of ripping Eminem off the first time they heard dream on...... :D

You know who I love who isn't rock/metal? Lady Gaga because of how diverse she is. She doesn't contain herself to one genre.

Her latest album is very country, the one before that was jazz, she has performed with Maiden and Metallica as well as Marc Rhonson and Tony Bennet - she's a musical chameleon.

Metalhead here!

Lady Ga Ga is a proper rock chick. Used to front a Maiden covers band before she got famous if I remember rightly, and her performance of Moth to the flame with Metallica at the grammys was quality.

One week until I get to see Shinedown and Iron Maiden in Cardiff!

I was somehow under the pressimistic opinion that this site was a dead zone when it came to Metal folk. Even Hard Rock folk. Seems I was wrong....

Grrrrreat!
