'I fixed it for you'

Does this annoy anyone else? I find it really condescending when someone quotes and edits my post, usually with a 'FIFY' or 'fixed it' announcement. It's like some people feel the need to censor other's opinions just because it doesn't match their own.

The problem with that is that opinions can't be right or wrong, so they can't be 'fixed'.

Damn, am I THAT transparent!

That's the trouble with opinions isn't it? So many people think that THEIRS is the only right one, based on their own experiences, culture, morals and up bringing.

But walk a mile in someone else's shoes and things might not be as black and white as they might first have seemed!

It'd annoy me if someone did it in a condescending way, but if a friend did it - and I have one or two who are naughty enough to do so! - in a teasing way to me it makes me laugh.

Isn't it usually done in jest?

Traffic land

I've only ever seen it done in humour, not on a serious post and I've done the same myself in a flirty, light hearted way

Ive only had it done to me in jest and always found it hilarious.

If it happened whilst I expressed my opinion in a serious way then yeah id be offended.

I've only just found out what FIFY means! So if anyone has done it to me in the past, the chances are I probably didn't have a clue what you were trying to say to me.

I normally don't read the quoted part of the thread so I wasn't noticing any changes.

I haven't seen it done in a condescending way, but yeah that would annoy me too. Otherwise, done in the fun way I normally see it done it makes me laugh.

I've only seen it done in fun, think it's quite comical.

But on a serious topic yes it would be offensive x

I'll know it when I find it.

When has this happened to you recently OP?

I've only seen it done in good humour - I do it with friends or in a lighthearted sense. I'm not invalidating someone's belief or opinion or 'censoring' it. Censoring it would mean reporting a post and having it removed.

I find it can be witty and a good play on words.

My clumsy fingers - no one was meant to know about that. Especially not you! Bugger.

Yeah, I fancy you. We should do things. With each other. Together.

I have never seen this before. I'd be pissed if someone did it to me.

I agree, if it is done in jest it can be funny, but it happened to me on a serious thread recently and it really pissed me off.

Whatever, if they need to 'correct' my post to make themselves feel better then let them get on with it!
