If you were raised on Rainbow, Blue Peter, and you played in the woods, fell out of trees and went home filthy and got a thick ear, had 4 TV channels & school started with the Lords prayer, had to be in at 7, rode home made go-karts with pram wheels, recorded the top 40 from the radio on a tape, drank from the tap, rode your BMX or Grifter all day, went to the corner shop for a 10p mix up and you still turned out ok. This is WHEN BRITAIN WAS GREAT

Not lemonade, Cream Soda, in bottles that were returned for the deposit on them and drank Stera milk too, and watched Knight Rider or the a- team on Saturday nights on a TV that had no remote, but buttons on it, happy days!

... when our neighbourhood was so friendly that our front door key actually rusted into the lock over time (true!) and no-one ever robbed us, the local garage gave our mum her car keys back after repair/service without fuss because they knew she was gonna pay the bill once payday came, and the ladies at the corner shop gave us a few sweets 'on account' because they knew our mum would pay the bill once payday came...

(i would've loved a Grifter!)

If you got beaten up for being gay,the boarding houses said no blacks no dogs no irish, there was no marital rape, women were slags or married, girls asked for it,the NF petrol bombed houses, the first victims of the yorkshire ripper were ignored cos they were sex workers, the black and white minstrels show was considered funny, pregnant bankworkers had to leave their jobs, and you still live in a nostalgic rose tinted view of the world...then you probably dont believe this is a great country to live in

i rewrote it

We used to get our cream soda from the pop man who delivered it weekly. Alpine I think they were called, used to get 10p back for an empty bottle too.

Aaah, parents called Sambo and nig nog, notices on homes, no blacks, because parents called "tap" "pipe" and "pipe" is the word you used in an essay put in "special needs" classes. Being one of the smartest in your school, straight As but sent to local comp as "no point" sending "my kind" to grammar school.

Growing up in 60s/70s England was really pleasurable for me and mine. Being abused daily was fantastic, shame it ended!
