What memorable and iconic sound effects from either a horror or non-horror movie always sends a chill down your spine?
The howl from An American Werewolf in London is always terrifying especially at the thought of hearing it one night in the countryside.
The motion tracker from Aliens can be scary too as the beeps show they are getting closer but you don't know where as they could be either under the floor or up in the ceiling.
Now that I think about it, hearing both together would be even more terrifying. Imagine being on the moors in the middle of the night and you hear that terrifying howl in the distance a few times and then, after a moment of silence, the motion tracker starts beeping showing a bluish white dot getting closer.........and closer...........and closer.
Now that is scary |

"
Oh yeah. That sound is pretty scary. I bet some people out there still can't go into the water without hearing that in their head. |

OP, great pick of the motion tracker in Aliens then the beeping and dots appearing on the scanner.
James Cameron did that film and I think he did a fantastic job, really understood how to sell the scene n the atmosphere. Points also for the firing noise of the pulse rifle.
So that's my fave film. My other fave film is The Thing (1982) The horrible garbled cry it let's out when its being torched gave me nightmares as a kid. And the dog that transformed had distorted pig squeals mixed in and I think a deep lion rawr
Also the long loud yell the same dog thing lets out with the other dogs barking that can be heard across the building and alerts the team to pull the fire alarm. None of this was present in the 2002 game!
Come to think of it, the noise of the old fashioned fire alarms themselves was pretty iconic for me. That WAS in the game |

I love that movie The Thing. The sounds of the creatures sure are horrific especially when the dog thing just sits there and you hear just the howling wind outside and then you hear the dog thing breathing as it begins to do it's thing which is pretty scary. |

Footsteps which are slow and heavy in a supposedly empty house. Sends shivers down my spine in dramas. The bbc dramatisations of m r James stories are heart stoppers. |

The air raid sirens in The Time Machine (1960) can be pretty scary especially in the scenes when it is heard when George witnesses the beginning of WW3 and when the sirens are used by the Morlocks to bring the Eloi into the underground so they can feed on them |
